Reading Corner Inspiration

Ryan surprised me this week with a book he got from a free pile at work. I started reading it right away. It’s like a predictable TV movie in book form, and I couldn’t love it more. The last book I read was so good, but parts of it were heavy and hard, and I could not turn away the bliss of cozy perfection within the pages of a book.

I haven’t counted lately to see how many books I’ve completed in 2023. I know it’s not a record-breaking number, but I do know it has resurrected in me the deep love of carving out time each day to sit and read.

Our warm days lately have afforded the opportunity to settle in beside the lake and turn page after page, reminding me of the days over a decade ago when I could lose hours of a day in a boat reading while my friends swam and rode on jet skis.

And while I know winter is a good many months away (and I’m in NO hurry for it to arrive), I’m already thinking of how to cozy up my reading corner so I have a place to sit and continue this resurrected passion in the months to come.

I have Nita’s wooden glider that will make the most perfect reading chair. It’s in the living room, allowing me to enjoy time together with Ryan, but it’s separated from the TV area, giving me the chance to focus on the pages before me. It sits next to the fireplace, which is nothing short of perfectly cozy on a cold day. (Not to mention the ambience…)

I surveyed the area this week and think with just a couple of adjustments, it will be the perfect indoor nook. I need to add a lamp, because the corner is pretty dark right now. I will pull some of the throw blankets from the bin in the corner and put them closer…because everyone needs a blanket to read! I have a couple of spare baskets that would make great reading pile holders. And somewhere, somehow, I need to find the perfect footstool for that chair. I love to put my feet up to read, and though many wooden gliders like this one come with a matching footstool, this one did not.

I am excited to assemble my reading nook, and I’m sure some good summer rains will give me a chance to try it out long before winter arrives. (Maybe without the use of the fireplace.)

Books and coziness. Two of my favorite things. I’m so glad I have a corner to foster for the perfect spot to enjoy them both.
