So at our reception...we had this table of stones...
Stones that would soon bear names...names of people who had invested in our lives. Not a complete list of all who ever invested, of course, but of those who were there that day. Sunday School teachers. Pastors. Aunts and uncles. Siblings. Friends. Mentors. Accountability partners. Prayer warriors. Teachers. Parents. Nieces. Cousins. Co-workers.
Because those people {and many more} poured into us, we were able to become the people we are today. We were able to stand and pledge forever to the other because of our foundation.
And as the day progressed, people stopped by the table and signed stones. Inscribed their names in rock to signify the investment made in two people who were celebrating the beginning of a home and life together.
People whose presence changed us in some way and prepared us for this day. For this journey.
And now the rocks are piled high in a jar that sits in the center of our home...as a reminder of where we came from. Of those who took time for us...to mold us...to be Jesus to us. Who made a covenant to invest in us. To take a risk on us. To pour into us.
Our foundation.
According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and someone else is building upon it. Let each one take care how he builds upon it. For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw - each one's work will become manifest, for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done.
