We're doing some August spring cleaning at work, and earlier this week, we received an email saying we would find a box of old pictures that we were welcome to pilfer through...and if we wanted any, we could have them.
The pictures ranged from about 1984 to around 2004...you know...until the digital age arrived. I decided to take a gander - more to giggle at emerging hairstyles than anything else. I mean...hello!! What were the late 80's and most of the 90's if not an adventure in Aqua Net??
So I sat in my chair, thumbing through photos of the guys...some before gray hair...some WITH hair...and the ladies with all manner of mom jeans, big glasses and bigger hair.
And then I hit this one:
I sat there and thought...boy this brings back memories. I remember going to a remote almost like this one once. Phil came to do the morning show on the road...yes, I remember.
Wait.
It was THIS one.
Wait.
That's ME!
Do you see me? If you guessed the girl in red and blue on the bottom right, you'd be dead WRONG. That was my friend who talked me into going in the first place.
If you guessed the girl on the bottom left with questionable clips in her hair, and skin as white as the coffee cup she's holding, then you'd be CORRECT. That nose is a dead giveaway every time.
It's true! The year was 2001 and I was working in Financial Aid at Indiana Wesleyan. While I was a fan of WBCL back then, Sarah was a diehard fan - listening nearly every moment of every day. She heard that the morning team would be doing a live show from the Wellness Center in Marion and she begged me to go with her.
I said, "But that's before work, and I don't believe in mornings!!!"
You can see who won that argument.
So I put on my white nurse hose and my Mary Jane shoes and my maternity looking jumper with the white shirt and clipped my hair and clutched the coffee I was still very new at learning to drink and sat there for the morning show.
I found it entirely interesting...how they did the whole thing. And I had NO idea that ten years later, I'd be on the other side of the mic, in a {thankfully} whole new wardrobe.
Still clutching coffee. Some things about mornings never change.

hahaha i love this!!!
Bekah, you are such a talented writer. Honest to goodness, girl, you need to write a book about your first year of marriage. I know you want to do a meaty devotional, but my heart is so full when i laugh and smile at the fun, crazy ways God has interwoven your life's story. It has a message, girl.
ok, gotta go find my white hose and mary jane shoes. ;)
XOXO
The white hose and Mary Janes were a bit unfortunate. If you had only known the need to dress for the future. Now I have to go find pictures of me from 2001 and see how unfortunate I was looking! I know I owned some white hose back then...
Funny you should say you were just learning to drink coffee in that pic because that's how I picked you out!!! lol The other girl had a bottle of water! I love reading your blog...it & your posts on FB give me my laugh for the day.
HA, Bekah, I remember that day but I certainly didn't see the future connection! Lois
That is so awesome! I love it!!!
That is so cool! Isn't God amazing we never know where He will take us!!
Ha! I had no trouble picking you out, but then that is how I knew you back then. Still, it's amazing how God works and the fun little reminders (when you're not even looking) that He has always had a plan.
Polly - You make me smile so much...you know that??? And I promise I will consider your request. :)
Lynnette - Don't look...2001 was just unkind across the board, I'm sure. As were all the 90's. :)
Karen - That is so funny!! I didn't drink coffee until I started working in finaid and they told me I needed to start the habit...so I did! So good to hear from you!! :)
Lois - The specific day or those days in general??
Natasha - Isn't it hysterical???
Anonymous - That is so true!!!
I had a similar experience when I found pictures of my college roommate and me at our parents' 20-year college reunion when we were in 8th grade. Neither one of us knew at the time the good things God had planned!
