You know how it goes when you have a great idea...and then it takes 800 times as long to put it into motion as you expected?
Welcome to our life.
Months ago...like back at Easter...when we knew God was calling us to commit to my resignation from WBCL, we also knew we were going to sorely miss the world of radio. It's hard when the thing you love so much is also the thing that consumes you, and God asks you to go hands-off.
But the beauty of this age is that when you love something like radio, you can have a taste of it at home...in a little thing called a podcast.
Before I even left the station, we'd purchased the equipment, dreamed up a name, talked to friends about help, and had begun brainstorming our first episode.
But then the pesky little parts of new projects crept up and we were delayed...and delayed again...and delayed again.
But we are so very excited that as of this week, we have a podcast up and running!!!! It's just something fun we wanted to do together, and it's something we hope you'll enjoy as well.
I would like to introduce to you to...
Here are some things you should know:
* Our plan is to record a new podcast each week and make it available to you on Tuesday right here on the blog.
* The format of this podcast is similar to the BLT show I used to do with Lynne. We are not trying to duplicate what she and I did, because that's just not possible. But we loved the fun, banter-y, lighthearted nature of that show and that is what we hope to deliver in the podcast.
* We are shooting for each episode to be about a half hour long...long enough to have some fun, but short enough to not take your entire day.
* There is a big difference between recording a show in a studio with a full staff of talented and experienced hosts and engineers and recording a show at home with the two of us. We beg for grace as we find our groove and as I learn to do the technical stuff in full.
* We also beg for grace as we find our voice in this thing. Every week can only get better, right?
In this particular episode...
* You won't want to miss my blooper, found in the first MINUTE or so of the show. Good grief. I retracted it as soon as I discovered it, but seriously, Bekah. SERIOUSLY.
* This photo goes with the story in the second segment. Pausing for a moment of sadness.
* The poor, poor fern, post trimsie.
* The more serious thoughts come from the first chapter of my Advent devo - a chapter about Mary. We're planning to share some thoughts inspired by that book each week leading up to Christmas.
We hope you enjoy Spill the Beans! {Who knows what kinds of beans might get spilled each week!?!}

Way to go guys!!
Fun! :)
Loved it! Some thoughts on it- I never knew what BLT stood for when you mentioned it in your blog as pertaining to the radio station. I was also confused about your structure, the pirogi, when I read about it on your blog. I thought pirogi was a type of food and that it must also be a synonym for a pergola or deck or covered structure of some sort. I carried my Chromebook with me while listening to it and thought that there must be a better way to listen to it. It dawned me that a little invention by Apple that I own would probably be the best way to listen so that I can still move around and get things down without lugging my Chromebook everywhere while listening!!
Tamar and Jayla - thanks!! It's been a fun new adventure.
Maria - LOL! So funny! I guess we hadn't clarified the pirogi for a while here on the blog either. It is definitely really only food and becomes a pergola only in our dictionary. Thanks for listening along. We hope the next one is even better!
Loved the Podcast!!!
Yay!!!! I will listen.
Fun to hear your first podcast down here in the Smokey Mountains and so glad you and Ryan decided to do this!! Tomorrow we will visit SONIC!! Wish you were here to go with us! LOT'S of people here!
YAY!!!!!! SO excited about this!!!! I've missed hearing your voice terribly! (Is that creepy?!??) :)
Anonymous - we are so excited you liked it! :)
Odie - I know you listened and I'm glad you liked it too! FAUCETS!!!!!!
Shari - Ohhhhhhhh I'm drooling just reading that. Send me a picture of your Sonic visit! I hope it lives up to my hype!!
Tia - You are adorable! Not creepy at all. I guess it's better than being told "I thought I never had to hear this voice again!!!"
Okay, I'm having a bit of a sick day and listening to this podcast is amazing. I had to stop in the middle to make more coffee-hot chocolate (is that a TRAVESTY to mix it with hot chocolate?) and I just needed to start my comment.
First of all, do you do coffee from beans or ground? Second of all, is it bad that I completely laughed when Ryan mourned the pirogi? Third of all, WHO IS SKELETOR??? Fourth of all, your fern should survive despite the vigorous trimsie. Fifth of all, I love that I'm finding out new things about you guys. I never knew Ryan was a "mattress technician." And I would fix the pirogi with duct tape, because hello! Duct tape! Sixth of all, WHY is it taking my water so long to boil? I want to get back to Spill The Beans!
And now I am pondering the last part of the podcast and thinking so many thoughts about Mary. She does seem like such an anomaly in our oversharing world today. And I am behind on my "His Advent" reading but I am encouraged to read it and ponder it as I walk to or from my kids' school everyday. After all, on half my walks I am alone with my own ponderings.
