Our Fourth of July Weekend Festivities

I’m still catching you up on the happenings of July, since it took me so long to recap our vacation! Today I want to tell you about our Fourth of July weekend!

It was the grandest weekend. Ryan had two whole days off work, and it was like the biggest treasure in the whole world. I seriously wanted to cry with joy.

Fireworks started the night before, and sweet Lexi wasn’t a huge fan. (Just for the record, I adore fireworks and would watch them all night every chance I get. I am not upset that people set them off at home – before and after the 4th, or until late at night. I’m just sad that because they bother her, I no longer get to see them!) We snuggled, and that was good.

Ryan and I spent the first part of July 4th doing our respective projects at home. Both of us were really behind on things, so we worked inside and out to catch up. I had picked out a recipe for these super cute layered patriotic smoothies. Aren’t they adorable?

Ummmmm, fail. Mine turned out looking like unicorn treats. HA! Still tasted great, though.

We enjoyed a gorgeous sunset and then sat inside to try to keep Lexi calm during fireworks.

Friday we went for a brunch date to Wick’s Pies in Winchester. It’s the first time we’ve ever been there! We ordered basically the same thing, a chicken fajita, but Ryan ordered his in a pita and I got mine in a salad! And then we had some pie. Yummy!

We had just gotten home from our date when our neighbors across the lake called and invited us to play pickleball with them! We’ve never done that before, so we said yes, and you know what? It was actually pretty fun! I couldn’t believe it! (I’ve proven to be terrible at tennis, so I did not expect any success with this.)

Ryan wanted to go paddleboarding, and the lake was nice and calm, so he went out and I did my Bible study at the patio table!

            Saturday was SO MUCH FUN!

We had to postpone our Father’s Day celebration, because Mom and Dad weren’t feeling well that day. So on Saturday, my sister and brother-in-law drove up from Indianapolis and Mom and Dad came over, and we had a fun afternoon together!

Before they all arrived, Ryan and I had a lot of fun taking turns with Lexi in the hammock. (I don’t remember if I’ve mentioned this here or not, but the hammock my sisters gave us for our wedding has been living at my parents’ house for the last four years. We finally have it back, and it’s been so fun to enjoy it again!)

Dad and Lexi were happy to see each other again, and we were so thankful to have a pretty day to hang out by the water.

Ryan grilled chicken, and by the way, that recipe will be posted tomorrow, and we ate on the patio.

Then we went for a boat ride, which marked Lexi’s first ride on a pontoon! It was so much fun, and she adored it.

We were sad to see the weekend come to a close, but really thankful it was fun and meaningful. We came into the new week recharged!
