This week has been full of the
unexpected. We’ve had days that have been good and days that have been hard. I’ll
be able to tell more of the story later, when we’re through it and not still
living in its (messy) middle, but I do have to pause today to tell you the
thing that has absolutely stood out to me the most throughout the entire week.
God
has gone before.
Every
single step of the way, He has gone before.
Every
Scripture I have read in my daily devotions? Perfect for this week. I’m reading
one book that focuses on the Old Testament, one that focuses on the New, one Scripture
compilation calendar that I put together before July arrived, and a Bible study
on Jacob’s life. And in all of those varied locations, I have found perfectly
timed words.
The
Scripture calendar is about listening, so I’ve been trying to spend extra time
in quiet prayer before the Lord merely listening, and in that, He has
gone before. He has laid on my heart things I need to hear and know – before I know
I need to know it.
The
messages I’ve been preparing for church have been perfectly timed (it turns
out) for my own heart in addition to hopefully being well-timed for the church,
too.
I’ve
written pages in my journal to keep track of how He has gone before and prepared
the way.
It
reminds me of way back in junior high, when I was dealing with a bully at school
(before I even knew what bullying was) and I “happened” to stumble upon a
Scripture about how God sends His angels ahead to prepare the way. In the hurt
of those days, it was such a comfort to know that God was going before and
preparing a way. And 46-year-old-Bekah has never forgotten the lesson junior-high
Bekah learned that day.
He
has gone before. He is going before.
I
am so grateful.
