Peterson Golf Outing

This year marked the fourth time I'd been invited to take pictures at the Peterson Scholarship Golf Outing. And for the third time, Ryan came with me as a volunteer and my golf cart driver. We have a blast with it every year, and I think this year may have been the most fun yet.

I was kind of nervous that it might be a lousy weather day because, well, you know, EVERY day has been like that lately. But it was the perfect temperature outside - and sunny and breezy - and just about the most perfect kind of day!

Ryan worked sign-in, and he was in charge of the mulligans.
And I was in charge of selfies. Just kidding. But I had to sneak one in!!
They had a TV on the side with photos from previous years scrolling. That was fun to see!
While Ryan worked with all the sign-in fun, I took pictures of the pre-game fun!
They provided Subway for lunch, which was delicious, and after we ate, and all the participants hopped into their golf carts...they were off!
Ryan's favorite part of this outing every year is...getting to drive the golf cart while I go around the course taking pictures of people in action.
Sometimes the driving is a bit...exuberant. {And apparently distracted.}
One fun part of the day? Getting to see Lynne! {She delivered snacks to the players.}
And Ryan even caught a few pics of me in action.

After we enjoyed a great day on the course, we met up with my good friend, Amy, from WBCL, and had our first ever dinner at Bagger Dave's. Ever eaten there? I had a pretty delicious turkey burger. :)

Such a fun Saturday...and I'm grateful to have spent it with some of my favorite people!!!

The Shafferland Shuffle

* Really enjoyed the take away from our sermon last week. God has been teaching me so much through the words the pastor shared, and I'm grateful. Ryan and I got to have lunch at my parents' house, along with Lori and her mother-in-law, and that was some GOOD food we had! Delicious! That evening, I happily pulled out the planner and began laying out the chores to be accomplished this week!
* Monday I surprised Ryan with a strawberry pie...homemade! It was such fun to treat him, and I won't lie - it was yummy, too! Love having the time to do these little things to bless him. In addition, I started the great cleanout of 2015...making a little path through the house and stopping at one thing each day to work on sorting, cleaning, and weeding out. Monday's task was the little cabinet where we store hats and gloves and such. It looks very nice now - and while I was weeding, I just went right ahead and tagged for rummage!
* Tuesday Ryan had a surprise day off...and he spent the day at my parents' house, doing some work in their bathroom. At one point, he called because he needed a part, so I had to run to the store, look in aisles filled with thingiemadoos I've never seen before and send pictures to make sure I was getting the right thing. I'm such a girl. The day was gloomy and rainy...which meant no lawn mowing, but plenty of time to try to figure out the next steps of podcasting. {Yeah we're going to need someone smarter to help.}
* Wednesday I had a first...I was a guest on a podcast for my friend, Joey Harris. I had a really fun time talking with him - and it was nice to get my feet wet in non-radio broadcasting! Ryan was gone SO LONG that day - because he went to my parents' after work to continue the bathroom overhaul. I missed him...which drove me to more coffee. It was a yucky, rainy day again, and I needed a pick-me-up!!!
* Thursday, I worked hard at some more cleaning and purging, and Braeya worked hard at licking up every last remnant of milk after I finished my snack. She's a helper, that one. :) Ryan's work at my parents' house continued, so I planned a surprise...and showed up with Starbucks and Subway so we could at least be in the same place for the evening. He had no idea I was coming, and he was really excited for the treats! He wrapped up his work there, and I think it really looks nice - and they love it!
* Friday evening, we had our first  adventure in hosting since the great life change of 2015. Our friends Mike and Angie just had a baby a few weeks ago, and we'd offered to take a meal to them, but they were excited to have a change of scenery for a while, so they came to our house for dinner and meet-the-cute-baby night! I made breakfast pizzas, cinnamon rolls and grilled pineapple - and we had the most fun, relaxing evening kicked back and talking together. Loved it.
* Yesterday, Ryan and I worked the golf outing we work every summer. It's an outing to raise funds for scholarships. He worked the sign-in table and then drove the golf cart while I took pictures during the rest of the day. We had an actual beautiful day with sunshine and breezes and warm temps!! WHAT!?!?! After we finished working that, we met up with my friend Amy for dinner. Haven't seen her since I left the station - and I'd missed her!

The Shafferland Shuffle

* Last Sunday we thought Ryan was going to have to work {which is rare on a Sunday} and we both woke up feeling HORRIBLE, so that was a bad combo! Halfway through the morning, we got a text from his boss saying he didn't have to come in. We were so grateful! We thoroughly enjoyed our day of true rest - our favorite breakfast sammiches from Subway, a fun trip through a model home {never done anything like that before} and of course - STARBUCKS.

* Monday one of our listeners/my friends stopped by the station with 2 boxes of Rise n Rolls. Ummmmm THANK YOU!!!!!! Thoroughly savored every bite of that unexpected treat. After work, Ryan went to help one of his friends load busted concrete into a dump truck {this was actually fun for them, I am told}. When he got home, we enjoyed dinner in the pirogi - in the rain! It was one of those lovely, gentle rains...so calming.

* Tuesday, I could not wake up! I was already on another cup of coffee by the time Mid-Morning began. And even that didn't do it. Lynne brought a treat for Ryan and I to share...the best key lime pie in the world. I couldn't even finish my piece, if that tells you how rich and wonderful it was! We enjoyed our night at home - and I watched my next Beth Moore Bible study - loving all I'm learning!
 * Wednesday night was our first night to visit the Howard County Fair. FRIED FOOD!! Ryan enjoyed his sampling of stuff - and I made short work of a walking taco...and then we shared an elephant ear. Ryan kissed a pig, because, well, why wouldn't he? And we spent some time walking around the midway with our friend Shawn and his kids. Lines were WAY too long to ride that night. We have to channel all our patience toward home sale, not lines for rides.
* Thursday started out pretty well...and then...oh the Shafferland drama. Ryan and I were driving home {separately, of course} from work, talking on the phone, when he told me his car had just died. Like DIED. It happened to occur not far from my parents' house, so Dad went over, and then Ryan's mom and cousin showed up, and in true it-takes-a-village form, they hauled the car away. It's a much longer story than this shuffle has time to tell. But look at this husband of mine. Still smiling even with a dead car and very reorganized night.
* Friday night, we went back to the fair for one last hurrah...we walked around with our friends Troy and Cilicia and their kids...and they even got me into the petting zoo and close to the animals! We watched an old fashioned combine hard at work and got a few last fair treats - including Ryan's favorite sirloin tips!
* Yesterday was my third time {Ryan's second} to work the Peterson Scholarship Golf Outing in Fort Wayne. We're not really golf people, but Lynne's husband has spearheaded the outing these last 3 years and has asked me to be the photographer. We were CERTAIN we were getting rained on this year because the radar showed this HUGE wall of water coming at us...but it DID NOT rain. Amazing. Ryan had fun driving the golf cart, and I had fun taking pics!

GOLF!

Last summer, I was hired for my first photography gig! Lynne's husband organized a scholarship fundraiser golf outing, and he asked if I could come take pictures. So, this girl who knows NOTHING about golf, showed up on a golf course, tooled around in a cart with Lynne, and had a blast!

I must have done a decent job with the pictures, because I was invited back for round two!

The golf outing started immediately after the parade Lynne and I were in that morning, so after swinging through the McDonald's drive thru for an iced tea, Ryan and I scurried to the golf club

 ...and I changed in the women's bathroom, grabbed my camera, and headed out to take pictures!

Speaking of camera...I brought my old one and my new one with me just in case there were any malfunctions. I have to tell you...being a two-camera photographer made me feel like the real deal!
They had a bunch of memorabilia scrapbooks there...with years and years of the school's track/cross country history. Very cool.
 A sweet silent auction was all set up!
 And lunch for everyone!!
 The golf cars were lined up...ready to go!
 Lynne worked the registration table, and look who jumped in to help her??? That Ryan...he's pretty wonderful.
 After everyone got all signed in and had tummies full of lunch, it was time for the game to begin! My handsome, handsome golf cart driver:
 Yours truly, expecting some serious heat - but not nearly as much as last year!
 The Shafferland photographers!
 Cart #2...the first one didn't work.
 Remember on our honeymoon, when we rented the tandem bike and Ryan ran around ringing the bell and shouting hello? We decided to make a version of that for when we ran into Lynne delivering water on the course!
 We drove all over the course, getting photos of the guys in action and also group pictures of each of the tourney groups. While we waited on them...we did some selfies.
 Ryan took pictures of me taking pictures.
 He's so good. :)
 We spent about 3 hours out on the course taking pictures, driving around, and having a great time, and when we were done, we headed straight to Starbucks to cash in the free drinks that showed up on our apps!!!

And that's the game of golf...Shaffer style!

The Shafferland Shuffle

* Last Sunday, I wasn't feeling very well {thankyouverymuch super busy life!} so I took it easy most of the day, including a splendiferous nap in the afternoon, a brisk walk rather than a run, and an evening on the couch catching up on computer stuff, while Ryan did the bulk of the other chores around the house. Being single for 34 years makes you really appreciate having someone else there to pitch in when you feel lousy. I did not take that one for granted!! And when I say he pitched in, I mean he did a more thorough job than I would have!

* Monday evening, we made a super quick trip over to the Mississinewa Reservoir to visit our friend Shawn, who was out camping with his family. Ryan and I aren't sure if we'll make it to the actual lake this year, because of all our projects at home, so it was fun to get to see Shawn and take a quick boat ride. And Ryan got to wakeboard and ski!
* Tuesday evening, I had the chance to meet up with one of my old work buds, Judy, and we had dinner together. We hadn't talked in ages, and I LOVED catching up with her. And then that evening, we ripped up some more carpet in the house, and unearthed some ancient treasures - including this newspaper clipping from 1949!!!

* Wednesday evening, we went to the Howard County Fair...our first time to attend the fair together! We enjoyed walking around, eating fun fair food and um....y'all? Your Bits Girl rode a Ferris Wheel. For real. My first ride since I was a kid. I have much more to tell you all about that...very soon!
 * Thursday we ripped up the last of the carpet in our main living area so we can get everything all ready for the new carpet installation coming up soon. Our life, I think, may always be a home improvement project. :) But Ryan does a great job with it!
 * Friday evening, we packed up the car and headed to Fort Wayne to spend the night at Casa de Ford! We ate some scrumptious pizza, got hooked on the sea salt and caramel gelato, and watched Mrs. Doubtfire. Oh. And drank coffee from the Keurig that we may or may not have taken with us. Yes. We are that pathetic.
* And yesterday. Ohhhhhh yesterday. Perhaps it might be faster to tell you what we did NOT do yesterday! In the span of a day...we participated in the 3 Rivers Festival Parade, photographed a golf scramble, and went to the fair. Again. That's a lot to put in one day, people!!!
