Dad's Day of Sharing

You may or may not remember that last November, I was invited to give a little presentation at Swiss Village, to talk about my Advent book. They made a cozy little event in the library, and I really had a wonderful time sharing with the group that came.

That same week, my Dad was also supposed to share at Swiss Village, to talk about his radio program. (Fun fact: it still plays on the local radio station, even though he’s no longer making new programs. Several people in the area are familiar with it because it still plays locally.) Unfortunately, my parents were sick the week of my talk in November and Dad’s scheduled presentation, so it had to be rescheduled.

It finally took place last Friday afternoon – and they even served ice cream. (My favorite part was that they bought his favorite kind of ice cream just for him.)

He had worked really hard to prepare for this and even though he’s spoken many times in front of all kinds of groups of many sizes, I think he was nervous about this one! New crowds will do that to you, I know.

I didn’t have any meetings that afternoon, so I was able to go. I hung out with Mom part of the time, and then I stood in the back to take pictures part of the time.

At the end of his sharing time, he had chosen some songs to sing with everyone, and one of the residents played the piano for them. They did a nice job.

I think Mom and Dad are both relieved this is over and that it went well, and I am glad I was able to go hear him. I even learned a few stories I’d not heard before

Your dad’s radio program was a wonderful gift to me during my first yrear back in California. The time difference meant my early Sunday mornings were accompanied by his music selections and were a time for prayer and worship during the chaos of moving, unpacking, leading a new team and just figuring out what was what in my life. My thanks to him…and after one year I couldn’t get the radio station. God provided what I needed! Lois
