Happy November, my friends! My goodness. How is it November? How is it tree decorating month? And yet...it is!
But before we get into all the holiday things, I HAVE to tell you about my adventure this weekend. As you all know, I am not a photographer. I have no idea what I'm doing, but I have fun doing it. I love taking pictures and having fun with it, even though I'm sure my work would make actual photographers cringe. There are so many things I'm sure I do so incorrectly! And every now and then, I get the opportunity to take pictures for friends - just for fun. This weekend was such a time!
But it was also a first for me! Here were our situations:
* While it wasn't freezing, it was chilly and windy. Super fun for long hair, scarves, and dresses, right?
* It has rained here quite a bit in the last few weeks, so we had mud for days. Muddy shoes. Muddy tights. Muddy everything for me.
* The youngest participant of the photo shoot was not even a month old. If it doesn't involve eating or sleeping, he's just really not currently interested.
* The next youngest participant is almost two. If it involves sitting still, smiling on command, or general purposeful participation, she's just really not currently interested.
* Mom and Dad did great.
* And at the very end, just for funsies, we added a dog. A dog who just wants to love (read: jump on) everyone.
And somewhere in the mix of the day we had an encounter with laying a baby blanket on the ground in the park to swaddle the baby and realizing we had laid it in dog poop that someone had left behind. Delightful. Out went the baby blanket. And off came my coat to become a baby blanket.
I should also mention that originally I'd planned for Ryan to come with me to make the toddler laugh and the dog look in the right direction. Alas, something came up at WillowBridge, and he couldn't go, so I was on my own.
I'm a decent multi-tasker, but apparently even I have my limits of success. We sure did our best. Family photos with an infant, a toddler, a dog, some wind, and no smile-maker is a challenge!
I'm so glad the people I was photographing are my friends. At least I hope they're still friends, right? I apologized about 15,000 times before I sent her the pictures and told her if she didn't like them, I'd try to make it right for her somehow!
But of all the photo shoots I've ever done in my life, this one may be the most memorable - and not in a bad way at all!
Kudos to you photographers who do this with great ease and finesse. You have my respect!!

When we had a newborn and toddler, our family pictures were very low key with low expectations. It sounds like you did great!!!
Sounds like quite the adventure!!
