The last two days were such a gift to us. You have no idea! Our weekend this week was Monday/Tuesday, and they were the best days. Seriously the very best.
Monday was our Sabbath, and we did it up right. We slept in, we took naps, we didn't get off the couch most of the day. I'm pretty sure I never even brushed my hair, and I know Ryan didn't brush his. ;) We both appreciated the chance to do extra Bible study, and the whole day was just such a blessing.
And then...yesterday! It was our 107th monthiversary, and we decided to take a proper date day. It feels like we've worked the last several monthiversaries, so this was a treat! We didn't really have a plan going into the day, but we loved what we came up with.
We traveled over to Winona Lake, which is about an hour from home, and had the BEST day. The day was sunny, though chilly, and the water was pretty choppy from the wind, but we didn't care. (I mean we weren't getting IN the water!) So pretty.
We had lunch at the Boathouse. It wasn't my first time to eat there, but it was new for Ryan! I am pretty sure I had only eaten there one other time - and it was back when I worked at the station, so it was at least six years ago. Maybe longer! Anyway, Even after all these years, you know what I remembered? THE FRENCH FRIES. They were the best I had ever eaten, and I remember wishing I'd skipped all the other food and just gotten the fries. I've talked about them many times - so Ryan ordered some. While we waited for them to arrive, I had a moment of panic that perhaps they'd changed their recipe in this time. I'm happy to report they're still delicious! He kindly let me steal a couple from his plate. SO GOOD.I had a grilled chicken burrito bowl, and it was delish!
The Village at Winona is filled with little local shops, so we stopped by a few of them. The first one was BeLove, and it had just moved to a brand new location in the Village. BeLove sells MudLove jewelry and mugs, and they're among my favorites. I have several MudLove bracelets, and one of them (that I happened to have on that day) needed a new band. I asked if I could get a new one and they not only put it on for me - but they didn't charge me! I was so impressed!
Then we walked down toward the beach area to appreciate the water again:
The canal is so pretty!
(Not all chocolate chip cookies are created equal. This one was superior to most I've had in a store.)

That sounds like the best weekend! I love spending any time by the water -- it's so beautiful, peaceful, and brings me to awe every time.
What a lovely place to visit!!
Love Winona Lake! The Boathouse has a wonderful Oriental Chicken Salad (in case you want to try it on your next visit!)
I love Winona Lake. My parents had a cottage there for 30+ years. It has changed for the better and is a lovely place to visit.
