The Shafferland Shuffle

Good morning from a lightly snow-dusted northern Indiana! It's one of those snows that is pretty and light and mostly behaves itself. I can handle that. Hope it's a good day today wherever you are! We've had a productive week here in Shafferland, and here are some of my highlights!

* You read about last Sunday in waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more detail than you probably ever wanted to, since I did a "Day in the Life" post this past week. Though our Sundays are typically not as chaotic as that one was, it was still a good day. I think one of my favorite parts was getting to do fun things with our one tenant, who wanted to bake cookies and play games. Some days our work is more about work and some days it's more about relationship. This was a relationship day, and I enjoyed it - even if I was exhausted at the end!

* One thing we try to do well here (and some days we do it better than others) is find fun personal things to do even on a work day. Last Monday was a work day for us, but it was slightly less busy than Sunday, so we were able to enjoy a little time in our apartment. AND we made a snowman pizza! It looked kind of angry, so we may not have a future in decorative pizzas, but it sure did taste delicious. I used a Dashing Dish crust recipe, and it was delicious!

* Tuesday we had a long meeting with Rob that served as our six month review. He took us to The Friendly Fox for the meeting, and that made my heart SO HAPPY. This little cafe is just down the street from WBCL and I went there often for lunch/coffee/meetings/parties when I worked there. I hadn't been back since, and it felt like coming home! We were there three hours and still didn't finish the meeting, if you can believe that! The food was just as good as I'd remembered, though, and I was so happy Ryan finally got to experience it.

* Wednesday was our actual six month anniversary of working here. It so happened that we had to take one of our tenants to a meeting across town during the lunch hour, so while we waited for her, we had a lunch date of our own - and then a coffee run to celebrate six months of working together. It wasn't a particularly warm day, but it was sunny and gorgeous, and we had the best time together! (Until the way home when all the water and coffee kicked in and we had to wait on a forever long train. EEK!)

* Thursday was the first day of our weekend this week, and for the first time in a while, we were actually home for the whole day with no places we had to go. You can KNOW I spent the day in jammies and bedhead. I needed that. I worked on scrapbooking and Ryan worked on another Abby project! He tried his hand at recovering some fabric panels. He'd never done anything like that before, but you know what? HE ROCKED IT!! I was blown away with how amazing it looked!

* Friday was our second weekend day, and we had scheduled our grocery shopping and other errands for that day. We ended up having to attend an emergency work meeting that morning, and that meant that we couldn't stop thinking or talking about work for the rest of the day. So even though we lost the day in our heads, we did get all our errands run, AND we had an IHOP date. Hoppy hour for the win!

* We were back to work yesterday, and it was a fun day for us at WillowBridge! One of our tenants had a birthday this week, so we had a community day party for her! She's a creative soul, so we took the building over to a pottery painting place called Bisque It and painted for the afternoon. Then we came back to WillowBridge to have pizza and ice cream cake together. It was our first outing with our new tenants included, and it was really fun!

You guys do sound busy- being productive and serving in your job. We had the best snow yesterday, too- pretty but not disruptive to plans :).

Tamar - Thank you!! :)

Maria - We had that very same snow and I was undone by its beauty. I wished I could have just walked around to take pictures!

I’ve only been to The Friendly Fox for coffee once, but their food looked amazing. I may need to go soon!
The snow yesterday morning was gorgeous! A friend texted that God had put a layer of frosting on our city.

Tracy - I highly recommend the food! I had a southwestern breakfast wrap that was SO good (and not too spicy) and when I used to go for lunch, I would get the salad that had candied walnuts and cranberries and feta - YUM. And the salted caramel lattes....ahhhhhhh. And I agree with you about the snow. A layer of frosting. I love frosting!!!!

Natasha - It was! They were helpful in there without being micromanagers!
