Spring Sprucing

This past weekend was the deadline for me: if it had to do with a snowman, snowflake, or wintry tree, it came down. I know we still have snow on the ground here, and I know the first of March can still be chilly and dark, but I am ready for spring in my soul. I needed our house to match.

Ryan has been busily working on the bathroom, so he hasn't had time to climb around in the attic hunting the box of spring décor, and honestly I am even sure what I have in that box. It's been a few years since I did an official spring decorating spree.

But whether or not spring goes up, winter must come down. It's just time. .Anyone??

Here are some of the things I do plan to do around our house to spruce it up for spring. Maybe it will spur you on to welcoming spring at your house!

1. Fresh flowers on the kitchen table.

This may be cheating to talk about since I do this year round. But I plan to increase the yellow and white to make it look even more like spring. I have a white farmhouse pitcher that sits on our kitchen table, and we keep it filled with fresh wildflowers. (I've said this before, but if you missed it, we get our flower bunches at Aldi. They are less than $5.00 and I usually can get them to last two weeks!)

2. All the citrusy-fresh smells in the diffuser.

Confession: I haven't run my diffuser nearly as much since I've gone back to work outside our home. In my work-from-home life, I'd fill it in the morning before starting my work day and let it run all day. Now, by the time I get home, I find I don't run it as often. I need to get back on a schedule, because I sure miss it! But I do love using lemon/orange/grapefruit/other fresh smells in the spring. If it can't feel like spring, it can at least smell like spring, right?

3. A few spring touches in the main living areas.

Once I'm able to comb through our spring/Easter décor, I plan to make a quick and cheap run to some store(s) for a few little sprigs/sprays/signs that I can use in our main living areas. I don't plan to overhaul the house to a Christmas level, but a few little touches can brighten up the whole place, right? (We already have one touch in the sun porch. We bought a lighted accent tree that looks like little spring blossoms. It achieves the idea of white lights in pine trees without the flocking and the pine.)

4. Go back to lighter bedding.

I know some people change their entire bedding scheme by season. Heavier quilts and flannels in the winter and white covers and linen sheets in the summer. We don't change the covering of our bed, but I do like to switch back to the regular sheets. I've loved my flannel sheets all winter, but I am excited for the return to regular weight sheets!

5. Salads for the win!

I know - we can eat salads all year long! But after a winter of soups and hearty slow cooker meals, the return of salads always gives me great hope that spring/summer weather is on the way! It may be 40 kinds of crazy that eating a salad brings on spring, but it works for me!

How about you? Are you ready for spring? Any spring-welcoming practices in your world?

I decorate the house a little bit for Easter, which, since Easter occurs in spring, serves a side purpose welcoming spring in the house. We also eat more salads when the weather turns warmer. However, we don't cease eating soup until the dead of summer.

I don't like Spring or Summer because bugs and sweating. I don't decorate ever. Yes, I know I'm weird.

That little Mexi salad looks delicious!!!!!

Maria - Easter décor is one of the things I'm trying to update. Much of what I had originally was pretty cheesy, and I'm trying to morph into a more classic look. Time to shop, right?

Tamar - It teases us, doesn't it?

Jinjer - You always make me laugh! I don't like bugs and sweating, but I am eager for longer days and no coats! And you don't have to decorate! It's okay! (And the salad really is good.)

This reminds me that I need to put our Spring wreath out, although I'm not ready to give up our flannel sheets just yet.
