Welcome Sweet Springtime...We Greet Thee in Song

You watch Andy Griffith, right? You know the episode about Good Old 14A? The one where Barney believes he can sing...but..uh...

If not, you can catch the proof right here {that's not the whole episode...just the off key part}. Cracks me up EVERY TIME.

So that sort of inspired our BLT topic yesterday, and we had so much fun with it, I thought I'd extend it on to the blog today.

What song would you sing in karaoke? Answer for me?? NONE. But Ryan and I do love a good round of car karaoke, and we always sing 500 Miles. FOR THE RECORD, I had no idea this song even existed before I met Ryan. But on one of our first dates, he played it in the car, and taught me to sing the da-da-da-da-da part. I'm terrible at it, but this does not keep me from singing with gusto.

What song reminds you of your childhood? We heard all kinds of answers on the show yesterday ranging from things in the Lion King soundtrack, to Sweet Caroline, to My Country 'Tis of Thee. For me, it's songs like If You're Happy And You Know It...or Jesus Loves Me...or the pronoun song. {Thank you, third grade!!}

What song makes you cry EVERY TIME? For me? Most of them. :) At Winter Jam a couple of weeks ago, Newsong sang Arise, My Love. That one is a tear jerker for me. Another one right now that I can't sing in the car without crying is Matt Redman's Mercy. {And I think Matt Redman is such a class act, by the way.} There are about a thousand more, but you don't have time.

What is your all time favorite song? Sure don't have one, because it changes all the time. But here are some that have been on that list at different points in life: These Are They by the Gaither Vocal Band, and it has to be the version from the Red Rocks concert. Also this version of Alpha and Omega by the Vocal Band. The harmony slays me. And my all time favorite arrangement of A Mighty Fortress by the IWU Chorale. And {yes, one more} - my favorite rendition of the national anthem, for years, was held by Sandi Patty. And then the Vocal Band edged her out in my book. And THEN, you guessed it! David Phelps did a version. Still holds the title.

What song do you secretly jam to? I fear it's currently Shake by Mercy Me.

So..........care to play? Answer any of the questions above??

And just in case you missed it on Facebook, this was our official photo for Mid-Morning yesterday!

I think I can sing, I can't. I keep my "singing abilities" to my shower and car (-:

I am with you. Every now and then, in church, I forget I'm NOT in my car, and I sing out, and then I feel like writing an apology to everyone around me!!

I absolutely can NOT sing either! If there were one quality I would love to possess, it would be that (praying that will be redeemed when I make it to heaven and then I can boldly sing my lungs out!). It's how I best connect with my Lord so when I'm in the car by myself, I put on a concert for my self. What song makes me cry? Way too numerous to name but right now especially: Blameless by Dara Maclean and Boldly I Approach by Rend Collective....Both are oh SO SO powerful and humbling!!!

yes yes yes Andy Griffith! I grew up watching every episode at least 3 times. I adore Barney and that just cracks me up so much. I love the episode when Aunt Bee drinks the "elixer medicine" and gets "gassed" and is bouncing up and down playing the piano. haha

Opey is adorable and i just love that show. My dad and mom still watch it daily while they eat lunch.
XOXO

Here are the lyrics to Boldly I Approach by Rend Collective...so so humbling. It's worth looking up on youtube to hear it with the music.

By grace alone somehow I stand
Where even angels fear to tread
Invited by redeeming love
Before the throne of God above
He pulls me close with nail-scarred hands
Into His everlasting arms

When condemnation grips my heart
And Satan tempts me to despair
I hear the voice that scatters fear
The Great I Am the Lord is here
Oh praise the One who fights for me
And shields my soul eternally

Boldly I approach Your throne
Blameless now I'm running home
By Your blood I come
Welcomed as Your own
Into the arms of majesty

Behold the bright and risen Son
More beauty than this world has known
I'm face to face with Love Himself
His perfect spotless righteousness
A thousand years, a thousand tongues
Are not enough to sing His praise

Boldly I approach Your throne
Blameless now I'm running home
By Your blood I come
Welcomed as Your own
Into the arms of majesty
Boldly I approach Your throne
Blameless now I'm running home
By Your blood I come
Welcomed as Your own
Into the arms of majesty

This is the art of celebration
Knowing we're free from condemnation
Oh praise the One, praise the One
Who made an end to all my sin

Boldly I approach Your throne
Blameless now I'm running home
By Your blood I come
Welcomed as Your own
Into the arms of majesty

1) 500 Miles is a good one. I also really like singing "Do You Hear The People Sing?" from Les Mis. That song kept Dave and I going through many miles of our road trip!

2) "My Pigeon House I Open Wide" or "You Are My Sunshine."

3) Right now it's "Amazing" by Bruno Mars. I love it and I can't sing it without getting teary eyed, especially when Rachel sings it with me. It's such a beautiful message for women with body image issues.

4) I can't pick just one :)

5) The Frozen soundtrack :) It's just so singable.
