Updates and Such

* This morning I'm speaking at a breakfast for area businessmen, which is a first for me. I am invited to speak places occasionally, but it's almost always for women's groups. I'm looking forward to the meeting, but I also want to do well with the message God put on my heart, so if you're up around 7:30 and want to pray for me, I'm not going to turn you down!!

* The first night in our new room was full of REST. Even Braeya conked out for the night and didn't play the jump-on-Bekah's-bladder-at-3-in-the-morning game like she had been doing. YAY!!!!! And I can only assume this sight that greeted us last night means she fully approves of the room: she'd already unmade the bed, she was lounging in the middle of said bed, and had planted her piggy toy on the floor. Yeah, I'd say she likes it.

* And I know, I know, you thought you were DONE with my health woes. As. Did. I.

Alas...not so much. Here's the scoop:

On Good Friday, we had dinner with some friends, and on the way home, I had some pain similar to the pain I had before my gallbladder surgery. It scared me to death. My first thought was "We paid all that money and that's not even what was wrong with me!!" Logical Ryan reminded me that we saw the ultrasound of my gallbladder and it was indeed full of stones. The surgery was necessary and successful. He urged me to stop panicking, because it wasn't helping my pain {what? Me? Panic??} and by morning I did feel better. We chalked it up to too much food at dinner and some weird indigestion.

Last Saturday morning, we went out to breakfast at Cracker Barrel. A couple of hours later, while we were shopping, the pain kicked in again. Briefly. Twenty minutes or less. But it worried me. I managed to stay calm and it stayed under control.

And then came Tuesday. Right as Mid-Morning went on the air, my stomach started to hurt again. By halfway through the show, it really hurt. I asked Ron if he could cover the board for me and I called the doctor. Her nurse said it was possible a stone had escaped my gallbladder before the surgery and could be lodged in a duct somewhere, causing pain. She said if I could get to a lab right away, they would be able to tell from my numbers if that was the problem. I had a script in hand in ten minutes and rushed to a lab in Fort Wayne for bloodwork.

They called yesterday - and they said my labs were perfect. So I guess the good news is I don't have a stone on the loose. The bad news is, we still don't know why I've had these weird episodes of pain. I have another appointment with the doctor scheduled for next week to see if we can figure it out, but in the meantime, I feel blah! And sad! I thought I was all done with this pain.

So I'm praying on one hand for relief from the pain and on the other hand for it not to go away if it needs to be there to help them figure out how to help me. Summer's coming and I want to be able to enjoy it! :)

So that's an update from Shafferland. Thanks for putting up with me. I do appreciate you!!

Bekah- maybe your doctor talked to you about this and maybe he didn't..... Your gallbladder releases bile that helps break down fats. After gallbladder surgery, bile is still produced by your liver but is excreted at a much slower rate. so.... sometimes after eating fatty/greasy foods, you can experience stomach pain, bloating, diarrhea, gas, etc. Usually your body adjusts after several weeks/months and you don't have to watch what you eat, but for now maybe avoiding high fat/greasy foods would help? I recently discovered your blog and I love it! You have been such an encouragement to me. Keep up the great work!!

I also had my gallbladder out about 20 years ago and as previous commenter said you will have those pains now and then. A lot of the time it happens after you have eaten greasy food, but praise the Lord the episodes dont last as long as the original ones before surgery!

Bekah, Ditto to the last 2 comments. My husband had this same surgery years ago. It *does* take awhile for your body to adjust and get to a new normal. Praying that you will feel better soon. Blessings, Lisa

Oh no! That's no good at all. But I have also heard what a few others have mentioned about it taking some time for your body to adjust without the gallbladder. I'm betting that's the problem and that with time, you'll be just fine.

YOU GUYS!!! What a great encouragement you've been to me today!! You give me hope that I'm not crazy OR broken. I had so many people warn me about foods making me sick after eating, but never pain or bloating. Just like bathroom NOW sick. So it's encouraging to me to know that others have still had pain, even if not as much. That helps me know what to look for as I work my way through my HIGHLY HEALTHY (HAAAAAA!!!!) diet. THANK YOU!!!! This girl is relieved.

Bekah --

I'm praying there is a clear answer to why you are having pain and that it gets easily sorted out.
