Toilet Paper Discussions

Perhaps my strangest post ever...

If you visit Malott's blog, you'll see where this discussion began along with a variety of opinions about the proper rolling pattern of the TP.

So, Chris, here you go. I never did win the fight with my camera/computer, so I had to develop these...and have I mentioned that the photo lab people don't even ask my name anymore...they just get my pictures for me? I'm sure they wonder about this one...

OH! And by the way, halfway through my picture taking, I realized my black/white setting was on, so that's the reason for the lack of color. I wasn't trying to be artistic.

Okay here's the bathroom with the freestanding TP holder. As you can see, I have it rolled over the top as we all know it should be rolled. I also opened the dryer door just a little tiny bit so you can see why I have the need to ever move the holder at all...to open the door all the way, I have to swing the arm of the holder around....
...which then makes the TP roll from the underside...which we established, is NOT the correct way to go. Yes, I realize I could just pick the whole thing up and move it, but it's actually kind of heavy. You wouldn't think so, but it is. I'm afraid one day it's going to come apart if I pick it up by the top too much. Oh - and you can see Braeya being a helper girl in this picture too. Never can she leave any event un-participated-in. Not even a toilet photo shoot.

But as I mentioned in my comment to you, this is what I often come home to....

And no. I didn't unroll it to make my point. I came home to it just like this the time I took the pictures.
Sigh. Two year olds.

This is the best Bekah's Bits EVER!

I have - never - seen such a device in all my years. Who thinks up such wonders? And the first thing I thought of was..."I wonder how many times per week it gets knocked over?" And then I read that it's quite heavy... Which makes perfect sense.

Yes, the artistry... The clever use of light and shadow... One senses the stark coldness of the tile, a perfect metaphor that screams, "pottying is a lonely business"... The dryer door's cameo appearance... A bittersweet tale, told in pictures.

Yes... This may be your best work.

Chris - So you're telling me that after I sit here multiple times a week and search my heart and mind for meaningful pieces to share...all I had to do was post pictures of my toilet? ;)

The first time I ever saw one of these holders was when my Mom redid her bathroom several years ago and someone gave her one as a...bathroom warming gift? (Not sure what to call it.) So when MY bathroom was remodeled a few years ago, I asked for one, because a wall that Dad knocked out held the TP holder...and then I was stuck without a place to put one.

Oh - and just like I hear that there's no such thing as privacy when you have kids...there's also no such thing as privacy when you have cats. (Great. I just fueled your "I hate cats" fire.)

Phats - I JUST CHECKED YOUR BLOG - i thought it was this morning - and there was a sports post! Was that yesterday and I missed one today? My days are so running together on me. I'm going to look.....

OH! And no I don't have a ghost. I HAVE A CAT. A cat who flushes and unrolls TP and gets her head lodged under the couch and carries her toys in her mouth like a dog.

Over the top is the correct way!! lol I hate when people have it wrong, I want to re-do it for them!

My office building has the TP coming from the underside, but I think that's just to make it easier to tear when using the gadget the TP is stored in. Mine at home is over the top...mainly because it's easier to find the start of the roll in the dark when it's over the top. LOL

over the top is certainly better. I hate it when it's on the wrong way!

Dear Abby said that when the TP has decorations or is embossed, it's made so the decorations show when it onrolls from the top. Therefore, even according to TP manufacturers, the correct way is over the top.

But Bekah, why do you need a step stool by the toilet? Are you too short to climb up all by yourself? You looked taller than that to me.

Cara - i don't think there's anything with correcting those who don't know any better...

Kristin - do your cats create tp havoc like mine do? You know...when they're living in your residence and not with the in-laws?

Sarah - ME TOO!!

Skyepuppy - that is a part i'd not thought about! The decor!

And the step stool is actually the basket where the spare rolls of TP go. BUT i will say that because my house used to belong to my grandparents, the toilet is of the extra tall variety. they had it put in during their later years. so when all my friends' kids come over, they pretty much have to ask for help until they're five. :)

You know, although I prefer the free-standing tp holder idea better, there is another alternative that might work better for you, considering you have to move it all the time. There are some tp holders that actually hang over the toilet tank. It probably wouldn't look as nice, but it would solve the problem of having to move it all the time.

Is that a downstairs bathroom? I don't remember it's proximity to the dryer...?

Bekah said...

Christina - well how does that kind work? Don't believe i've seen that.

I could just quit doing laundry. :D that could solve a problem or two.

Yes, that is the downstairs bathroom. I don't know if you have seen it since it's been remodeled. If you look behind the TP holder, you'll see that the wall is tile and then there's a wood piece on the corner...that used to be a half wall that came out and "hid" the toilet - from the dryer I guess. Can't have the dryer seeing what's happening next to it! :) Well there was no way a person AND a laundry basket could pass through, so dad took out the wall. plus it used to have pink carpet and pink walls...and now everything's beige.

The UPSTAIRS bathroom - with the normal size toilet - stays closed off to the world cause that's the one Braeya Jo has figured out how to flush and she cannot be trusted to NOT spend the day having a flushing party.

Phats - ahhh i see. I realized just now that I forgot to reply to everyone and then when I replied, I only replied to Brandon! Man my nap really messed up my head! I think I need to go back to sleep! :) So how should I feel about it that I watched a show that is too over the top for you?
