Saturday Suggestions: Inspirations for Your Weekend

This week has been filled to the brim with creativity for me. I’ve had time to write, decorate, scrapbook, read, create, and cook. I have loved it so much. The week before was filled with obstacles and spiritual warfare and so much frustration. I welcomed this change of pace!

Here are some of the fun things I found in my internet hunts this week!

Ryan and I have both really started loving thrifting, and in fact, we even killed some time at a Goodwill on vacation! You always have to go into a thrift store with an open mind, because you never know what you’ll find. But here are some good ideas of things to look for (and avoid) when you thrift!

I’ve learned so much about how to craft a wardrobe that has great mix-and-match potential through years of studying capsule wardrobes, but I haven’t paid as much attention to my jewelry. I found this post that shows how to create a jewelry capsule of timeless, subtle pieces. I like this idea. Going to have to consider this! (BONUS: Oh! And speaking of wardrobes, check out this fairly short video from Angela Braniff about how to find clothing cuts that define your waist, especially if you don’t love tucking in shirts. I think Angela is one of the most easy-to-listen-to and well-spoken influencers on YouTube right now, and I enjoy her ideas.)

Need a feel-good story? How about these ladies who have a world record title for exchanging the same birthday card for 80 years?? I think this is pretty amazing. I love random things like this that end up becoming something!

I’ve shared on here many times the way I’m always learning to improve our patio/porch spaces and how to handle gardening in small container areas. Julie’s post here offers so much. First of all, if you live in an apartment or other area with a small patio space, she has lots of creative ideas for making a super cute space without a lot of room. Secondly, she gives great ideas for plants to plant and how to keep rodents and critters out of them! AND, my favorite part: if you have an area off to the side that you’re trying to hide (because it holds non-cute, but necessary, items) she has a solution for that!

I have shared posts on here before from Melissa’s blog about the tiny cottage area where her parents live. (It’s an extension of Melissa’s home…like an in-law suite.) She just did another update on their décor, and I’m still not tired of looking at this space. Check it out! (BONUS: I also watched this half hour video home tour and truly loved it. It wasn’t so much the space I loved, although I really did like the house a lot, but I particularly loved the host and her curated style. I loved her because she wasn’t pretentious. I think she’s the first tour host I’ve seen hosting in shorts and a tank top – not super fancy clothes – and her home is filled with heirlooms and flea market finds. Loved it all.)

I’m reading a book about gatherings, and one of the examples the author talked about was Diner en Blanc. I’d never heard of it before, so I had to look it up. You can read about it here, but the concept blows my mind. Everyone who attends has to dress up in all white, and everyone must bring a friend. (All tables must have two people.) Speaking of table, you bring your own table, chairs, and meal, and when you arrive at the designated meeting place, your hosts take you to the event location. No one knows where it is until then! Everyone sets up, eats, and then a few hours later, everything gets torn down and cleaned up until no one knows an event took place! (BONUS: If that isn’t your thing, what about a cake picnic? I saw this idea on Instagram and immediately sent it to my friend who runs a flower patch. Cakes and flowers? I would totally buy that ticket!!!)

Is it possible for you to mention good thrifting places in your area? Thanks

Sure! I cast a fairly wide net with thrifting and visit different places when I'm in different towns. So here are my favorites: I love the Goodwill stores in Celina and St. Mary's, Ohio. There is also a HUGE Goodwill in a strip mall beside Glenbrook Mall in Fort Wayne. Also in Fort Wayne, the newest store I found to love is Lighthouse Family Thrift on Lima Road. (I read they are opening a second location this summer.) I also really enjoy Fractions Apparel and Home in Bluffton (consignment, so the prices are a little higher than thrift, but the quality matches) and Et Cetera Ecke in Berne. It has half price days the first Saturday of every month. They are usually too peopley for me on that day, but every now and then I'll brave the sale. I need to look more in some of the other towns that we haven't explored quite as much, but I bet there are some gems!
