Well, we've come to the day when I tell you about our sixth anniversary celebration. I know. I know. You've been on the edge of your seat with anticipation. We were SO EXCITED that our anniversary ended up being a stunning day. It was sunny, warm (for December) and perfect. We haven't had many of those kinds of days lately, so we were extra grateful.
We had brunch reservations, so we got up and ready and exchanged our gifts before heading out to brunch. We try to get our anniversary gifts based on the themes for every year. Know what it is for year six? Iron and candy. I wrestled with this for a YEAR (a story for the podcast) and about four days before we left, I came up with a new gift idea. My sister was gracious to order it for me, so Ryan wouldn't see it on the order, and both our gifts turned out to be winners!
Ryan got me beautiful earrings that were a combination of pearl and, yes, iron! I love them!
And here was his winning gift:
We can't wait to dig in and use that!
We also drank coffee from our wedding mugs.
Our brunch reservations were at a restaurant called the Rivue. It's on the 25th floor of a hotel that overlooks the Ohio River. It was actually a little different than the one we went to in Indianapolis last year. That entire room was in a circle and rotated. This one had two sections that kind of looked like Mickey Mouse ears on the side of the building, and they rotated. But half the time, they rotated inward to the dining room. (We didn't end up getting a seat by the window anyway, but we could still enjoy the views.) And the food. OH MY GOODNESS, THE FOOD. A custom omelet station, tables and tables of food, fresh waffle bar...delicious and so filling! Here are some photos from our day.
I couldn't get a great picture of the buffet lines without looking like a pathetic tourist, but here is a quick snapshot from our seat:
And I had to take this picture because I have never before seen a tornado shelter on the 25th floor of a building.
After our delicious brunch, we went back to our Airbnb to change clothes, and then we ventured out to a local park to take our annual photos. (I'll show those next week.) The park was PACKED with people excited to take in the last good day of the year (in all probability). When we were done with photos, we took a walk of our own!
We went back to the Airbnb again to rest (aka watch football, for Ryan) and that night, we went to this pie and ice cream place I'd read about. Oh. My. Goodness. We have such a story for this one too - so that will be on the podcast as CAN I JUST GET A SANDWICH, PLEASE??? Meanwhile, the pie and ice cream were absolutely delicious. We actually never ended up eating a real dinner, because this was more than filling. Check out the size of these pie sundaes!
By the time we were done with those, it was dark and getting cold, so we headed back to watch our wedding video, drink our sparkling grape juice, and read the letters we wrote last year/write new ones for next year.
It was a perfect day. Loved it! :) Happy anniversary to us! :)

What a perfect day! To many more!
Wow! Everything sounded so nice. When I eat my plain bagel in a couple of minutes, all I'm going to be thinking about is the brunch you had :).
What a wonderful romantic day!! WOW!!
Tamar - Thank you!
Maria - Those waffles ruined me for all time. They were hot out of the iron when I walked up, and that berry combo was slightly warm and super flavorful. And the whipped cream was freshly homemade. I'm drooling just writing about it. I'm going to think about it too, here in a minute, when I have my yogurt.
Shari - it surely was!!!
THOSE WAFFLES
What a fun day! Happy 6, guys!! XOXO
I love your intentionality with gifts. Those earrings are beautiful and the fondue pot is inspired :)
Also, I'm not a big breakfast person but those waffles might have tempted me to change my mind!
