Our Grown-Up Snow Day

Well THIS doesn't happen very often! Ryan and I both got a snow day on Monday! Like a for-real no-work snow day! All of central and northern Indiana was under a no-travel warning, so we stayed HOME.

Sunday night, we ended up sleeping in our living room by the fireplace, because it was warmer than our bedroom. I have the mantel all decorated for the new year, so this was our view as we fell asleep:

Monday morning, the girlie and I just wanted to sleep...and Ryan was ready to get up and get going on the day!

One of my favorite things to do on days at home is to take a long, leisurely time with my devotions...to read and journal and savor breakfast...by the "fire" on cold days. :)

We spent most of the day working on our home office. It's the one room in our home that always gets dumped in...because it's the one room no one ever gets to go in when they come over. With Christmas over and all that clutter cleared out, we decided to clean it up so we can USE it. It's not done, but it's certainly looking better.

And then Ryan decided to try to shovel us out. The wind had kicked up late Sunday night and overnight as well - and the temps were some of the coldest we've seen in our lifetime {and predicted to drop more!} so it really wasn't safe to be outside for very long.

THEN he decided to get the car out, which made me CRAZY nervous since we were under a travel advisory {the kind that absolutely FORBIDS travel unless you're emergency personnel}. He got as far as the end of our driveway and got stuck:

And after much spinning and digging, he got himself dug out. Our street rarely gets a plow. I certainly was NOT holding my breath this time for one - but one actually showed up yesterday! It's a 2014 miracle!!

By the end of our grown-up snow day, only one county in the upper portion of Indiana was back to conditional travel - and it's the one where I work. But my car was snowed in, my county was still in red, and I figured Tuesday would be a work-at-home day for this girl while Ryan took the good car to get to work, even if somewhat illegally.

We do have a garage...but we don't have enough space for all the vehicles. The one in the picture had been IN the garage but he was just pushing it out into the road. :)

I do feel awfully blessed. Hope you are staying safe in this mess!!

Yay for having extra time for devotionals and to work on extra projects. That was one of the things I loved about having Dave home for extra days over Christmas. Sadly (well really it's a good thing), he only has a twenty minute walk to work so he NEVER gets a snow day. Boo.

Twenty minute walk? That's dedication!!! I have too much luggage to make that far of a walk. LOL!!
