Like...Another Pet Peeve

I few weeks ago, I posted about the overuse of the word "like." Yesterday I observed a second behavior that is overtaking the general human population.

SHUFFLING.

If you are over the age of 80 and want to shuffle, fine. You've earned that right. If you're injured and unable to pick up your feet, fine. You also have earned the right to shuffle.

Yesterday I walked down the sidewalk and I heard this chorus of shuffling rapidly approaching me from behind. I slowed down and this whole crew of girls filed around me, shuffling in their flip flops. I wanted to yell "PICK UP YOUR FEET!!" but I thought better of it since I was headed to the chapel to pray and that didn't seem the perfect prelude.

I don't understand it. Why shuffle? Does it really take that much more energy to pick up your feet just an inch or two?

And now I'm paranoid that I do it too and I don't realize it. I'm very conscious of my walking now.

I haven't noticed people shuffling their feet, but I am disappointed in other things I've noticed in our culture. It's annoying that people have lost the need for correct grammar, pronunciation, spelling, respect for others and a good work ethic. Did I leave anything out? :O)

I am more likely to shuffle when I wear flip-flops ... I will NEVER wear them to IWU! haha

Tina - maybe you and i could each do a blog series on our pet peeves?

Brandon - so is it that the flip flops lend themselves to shuffling? Because I think every shuffler that passed me was wearing them. Hmmm - it makes me wonder if I shuffle when I wear them too.

I don't think I shuffle my feet when I wear flip flops. They fit well. I would think that if they were too loose you might shuffle, but then get a pair that fits.

We could do a series on pet peeves. Add entitlement and authority problem to the list also. It is amazing how some applicants act during the hiring process. A couple of applicants brought their parents when bringing in their application. The parents did most of the talking and gave me the paperwork. That makes the applicant look irresponsible and immature.
