When Dreams Come True

Okay so maybe there IS such a thing as a snow day in the real world. Who knew?
I woke up this morning and checked outside to see the snow condition. Not too bad. Cars were moving right along, I could still see pavement - you get the idea. But just to be sure, I turned on the radio to one of the stations listed on yesterday's "listen here for details" email at work. Nope - not listed. Just to be extra extra sure, I checked my answering machine after I got out of the shower. No calls. No big shocker there. Work would go on as it ALWAYS does.
I turned on the news and watched the weather lady step into the road and swish her toe around in about the inch of snow that was there. She was going on and on about the terrible road condition, and I sat on the bed saying, "Lady, I can see the pavement. It's an inch of snow. It's not bad!"
So I made my coffee, packed my peanut butter and jelly toast, warmed up the car and zipped right on over to work. Truthfully, this is the best the roads have been all winter. No getting stuck, no sliding, no fishtailing. I parked, walked up to the office, turned on all the lights, opened up the files, started up the computers, and waited for all the out of towners to show up. Then I saw the email. Campus closed.
Well isn't that just swell.
So I shut down the computers, locked up the office, picked up my coffee, and headed back to my car. I drove to the gas station for an iced tea and came right back home. The cats were very confused - no doubt I just ruined their day of "Mom's not home" fun.
And just so you'll know - I checked the website for my radio station - my work was not listed. So see, I did everything I was supposed to do and the cancellation notice just wasn't there. It doesn't matter though. I'm scrapping the day away, eating a little treat of frozen pizza (okay I baked it first) and some FABULOUS chocolate chip cookies I baked the other night during my Izzie-fest.
It would have been nice to stay in bed all day, per my #1 choice on yesterday's dreaming post. But it's a good thing I didn't since my doorbell rang - and that would have been embarrassing if I'd shown up with bedhead and droopy mascara.
Oh, and Phats - in honor of our conversation I watched Little House while I scrapped. And Faith - I watched Ellen, too! Now I'm going to go see what sorts of shows are aired while I'm at work in the afternoon, and I'm going to watch them because I can. :)

YAY!!! Snow days in Indiana are so rare considering the amount of snow the state gets (especially up here). We've got somewhere between 16-18 inches with more still coming (about 14 inches of that was here before last night.) Needless to say, we're not venturing out today, although Andrew is at work.

It stinks that you had to get out of bed and go all the way into work (even if it isn't really that far). At least you got an ice tea out of it, right?

Hey, speaking of scrapbooking, I've got probably a thousand baby pictures (this is not an exaggeration, I'm afraid) and I've been toying with the idea of attempting to create a scrapbook. What basic supplies do you recommend? This won't be an elaborate book, just simple and basic, but there's so much stuff out there to choose from that I'm more than a little overwhelmed. What kind of adhesive, materials, pens, etc...do I need to get started? I'm begging for advice here, oh scrapbooking guru!

Enjoy your day!

Phats - My alarm goes off at 6. I start participating at 6:30. There was DEFINITELY not a blizzard here then. Maybe now I might consider calling it that. But not at that time of day. You staying warm?

Christina - HI!! I've missed you!! Wow - you guys are lots worse off than we are. I'm (now) glad that I had to get up - I'm kicking patootie on the books!

EEEEE I'm so excited that you're going to venture into the land of scrapping!!! Here's my recommendation. Make sure everything you get says it's acid free I use glue sticks because I am an over-adhesive-user. And glue is cheaper. :) I use different colors of card stock to mat my pictures and just a black acid free marker to journal. If you're just getting started, background pages are a good way to go because you can get some decor without going broke on stickers! But stickers are fun too. I like my stamps - because I buy once and can use a million times.

If you're going to invest in stamps at all, my recommendation would be to start with alphabet stamps (my best investment ever - you always have enough letters and only buy once!) and a journaling stamp (makes lines so you can write about your pictures). Come to think of it - I have a spare brand new journaling stamp around here somewhere. I can send it to you if you want. It's just collecting dust.

I can write you a ten page email wiht more if you want more info!

I am guessing a good chance you won't have to go tomorrow either, all the schools have cancelled, we have closed the center.

Right now we only have a delay. They told us to check between 10 and 12 for an update. I'm not going to hold my breath, but I do have a small glimmer of hope.

Hooray for a snow day!! So glad you were able to do some of the things on your wish list even though sleeping in didn't happen! Wish I could eat some of that yummy food you made during your Izzy-fest! Stay warm :)

Skyepuppy - Wearing jeans to work is absolutely a reason to celebrate!! We don't get to do that often either, so I LOVE it when we do!

Natalie - I would share every bit of my Izzie fest with you. It was food for the office and for my friends, but clearly I'm not seeing any of them today since I'm still digging out of my house!! I would just give you the couch, the remote, the fuzzy blanket, and all the cookies and I'd head out to shovel! Wait, who am I kidding? If you were here, that would mean Brandon would be with you. I'd stay in with you and let HIM shovel!
