This weekend has been all about reflection for me. In every part
of it, I’ve seen the goodness and kindness of God, and I’m grateful.
Ryan and I
celebrated 129 months of marriage yesterday. We had the chance to share part of
our love story with one of our small group friends last night, and it reminded
me of what a sweet blessing Ryan has been in my life. He has made our relationship
fun and meaningful since the first day, and I’m so thankful those things have
mattered to him.
I’ll tell you
more later about how we spent the day, but the main part was spending it together.
Weekend monthiversaries are the best.
Yesterday was
also the official one-year mark of finding our lake house listed on the market.
I know I wrote about it earlier this week, but there was something extra
special about it yesterday. We stood in the yard, talking to our neighbors, and
I found myself so thankful that God allowed us to have this very spot on the
lake. We have been blessed with many good neighbors in all the homes over the
years, but these two are extra special to us. We enjoy conversations shared regularly
in the backyard!
The night before
that, we sat on the patio, drinking coffee during the sunset, and everything
was quiet and serene out there. Both of us had long weeks and were weary in
mind and soul, so a quiet night on the lake felt like the perfect restful therapy.
Yesterday also
marked a year since we had a tough health issue for one of our family members.
I’ve never shared about it on the blog because it isn’t my story, but it was a
hard and scary day, and we weren’t sure what the future might look like. Ryan
and I had been on a date and left in a hurry to get to the hospital, and I remember
sitting in the emergency room late into the night, wondering what might come
next. Thankfully, the year that has followed has brought an evening out of
health, not a rapid decline, and we are grateful for that too.
Eleven years of
goodness…and a year of goodness in a couple of different ways. The reasons for
gratitude vary wildly, but the goodness of God hasn’t varied at all.
My heart is thankful.
