I don't imagine that Fun Question Friday will come to be a thing here on the blog (or blob, as I just typed) but I happened upon this question yesterday and thought it was so fabulous that I wanted to write about it so I could ask you the question, too!
Here it is:
If your employer gave you a month-long paid sabbatical, what would you do and where would you go?
I asked Ryan, because I wanted to know what my potential options are for our imaginary month-long paid sabbatical. ;) He didn't hesitate long before saying he'd love to hop in the RV and travel around doing some service work with touring breaks on the weekends.
I don't hate this idea! There are several RV groups (mostly made up of retired people) who do just that. They volunteer with organizations and travel around the US doing projects in disaster zones, or at camps, churches, schools, etc. Many are set up to "work" a four day week and then have a three day weekend to explore the area, hike, and see the sights. That would absolutely be Ryan's happy place. Sharing with those in need and getting to see places he's never seen before.
Great answer, Ryan!
I feel a little guilty about my answer after seeing his, but they are kind of similar. Points for that, right?
I actually really like his idea, and I think that would be a great way to spend our own retirement years someday. But if I had a month-long paid sabbatical, I think I would want to travel out west (in the RV, of course) and see the places I've never seen, which would basically be everything except Kansas. I'd love to do writing projects centered around what I get to see and experience.
Unfortunately, I have way more places on my list than I'd have time to see in a month, but it would be fun to see what I could!
My "out west" list includes places such as:
* Waco/Magnolia
* Arizona's landscape
* All the national parks
* The Badlands
* The Pacific Northwest
* The Pacific Ocean
* Pretty much the length of California
* The Grand Canyon
* Mountains
* The Redwood Forest. (We've already seen the Gulf Stream waters.)
And you're beginning to see why this wouldn't fit in a month, right?
Or a year?
;)
But how about you? Where would you go and what would you do?

Great question! Right now, because I've been so cut off from family, I would high tail it to OR to see my sister and the boys. Pre-COVID I would have said travel the US or Europe!
Criss cross Europe! Bucket list trip.
If we both had the same month that would be plenty of time to see PEI. Just sayin'
If you do ever come to CA, you have to come to Atascadero, so you would see Lois and me. Two for One!!!

Tamar - I've missed your tales of life visiting your sister!
Becky - So cool! I am not sure I'm brave enough for that long of a plane ride, but I sure hope you get to do it!
Julie - UM YES!!!!!! I need two sabbaticals. :)
Katie - Atascadero would absolutely be on the list. I want to meet you and see my Lois!!
I have some friends who, when they retired, spent a year traveling in their RV. He's a writer by trade, and she's a photographer. They're working on putting together a book of the stories and pictures from their travels.
I LOVE this question!!! I love how your and Ryan's answers work so well together.
I would travel to four different cities in the world to work in their school offices/libraries for a week each and discover how schools work around the world. Let's dream big and say a week each in New York City, a small town in Scotland, Nairobi, Kenya, and Sydney, Australia. Clearly money (and jet lag) isn't an issue!!!
Good reaading
