I thought I'd give you an update on Ryan's mom today! She's been with us for a week and a half now, and we like to think we are making a lot of progress over here in Shafferland. :)
Here are some of the adventures she's had in recent days!
She had mentioned struggling with some weakness in her legs, so I've been taking her to Ryan's work at the end of the day. She spends some time on strengthening and has been doing really well. (We are amazed at how her breathing has gone since surgery. For those of you who don't know, she has debilitating asthma and sometimes struggles heavily to breathe when just sitting still. For her to be able to do exercise with ease is a huge blessing.)
This week, Ryan made some goals for her to help her regain her ability to do normal, everyday tasks. So on Monday, I taught her to do laundry in our washer and dryer. She was so excited to be in charge of her own laundry again.
(She's also decided to take up wearing hats, and she looks awfully cute in them. She hasn't lost her hair, but she's decided to embrace hats.)
Ryan has taken her on a few mother/son field trips. Most recently he took her to the grocery store. She made her own list, found her own items, did her own checking out and bagging and was SO PROUD of herself!
She's been helping me set the table and clean up after meals, and she's been cleaning up her things before she goes to bed. Doing great!
Yesterday, Ryan's Aunt Sandy came over with some new hats for Nita, and it turns out I scored an extra one for myself. TWINS!!!
So that's where we are! Just working on life skills one little day at a time.

So glad she is recovering well!
She looks great and you both look adorable in those hats!
Yay! Congratulations on progress.
How lovely to know the progress Nita is making. We are wondrously made by the hand of God and I am amazed what the brain can do especially after trauma. Kudos to you and Ryan for the support system but especially to Nita for her determination and progress!! Lois
