Well I thought the podcast was going to be a day late again this week because of our little birthday trip, but we powered through and have a brand new episode for you today! All the stories that are too detailed to tell on the blogaroo are right here for your listening pleasure!
Our main destination for our birthday trip was the darling little town of Madison, Indiana, and we arrived there Friday afternoon following our Ripley County tour. Madison is the county seat of Jefferson County, so of course we just made this our county tour there as well!
This county is right on the Indiana/Kentucky line and was named after President Thomas Jefferson. There is so much history in this little town, and we barely scratched the surface!
For the record, I chose this location for us because I'd heard so many wonderful things about how quaint and cozy this little town is. (I also hear it's really cute at Christmas!) I'd also heard many things about Clifty Falls State Park, which is right next door to Madison. We went hoping to hike there, though the weather made us nervous!
Loved the big beautiful bridge that crosses from Indiana to Kentucky! There were barges traveling up and down the river all weekend long!
Before we left for the trip, the forecast said it was going to not just rain, but STORM the entire weekend, and the rain did indeed come in Friday evening. It started just about the time we headed to the town next door, Hanover, to drive through the college campus and see this scenic point Ryan had heard about. It was probably not as scenic for us as it could have been (rain, you know) but it was still pretty!
It's really hard to wrestle an umbrella AND a selfie AND a scenic point. We tried.
We came back to Madison for dinner, and if you've heard the podcast, you will know THAT turned into quite the debacle. Just so you can see, here's the first of our four restaurant stops in an attempt to find one where we could eat dinner! This is the one that ended up being destroyed by a flood, even though Facebook still said it was open. (I took one of the pictures a couple of days later, hence the change in weather.)
We finally found some dinner at this really delicious restaurant called Downtowners. YUMMY!
I was going to tell you more stories, but I think that may be enough for today! I'll be back tomorrow!

What a beautiful county! So much fun, even in the rainy weather!
Hope you had some pork while you were in Madison . . . aka "Porkopolis". (I used to teach Indiana History and remembered that Madison was given that nickname.)
Tamar - It was! :)
Tracy - You know, I don't think we did! We had bbq on the way down...I guess Ryan did have a grilled tenderloin on Sunday. Does that count?
You had me sold at "river views." I just LOVE the water -- in all its forms -- lakes, rivers, streams -- I love it.
