The Saturday Six

One.

Well, last week I challenged you to get organized by cleaning out your photos on your phone. I did mine last Sunday night and it took forever. We got some really good laughs out of the pictures, though, and I feel much better about starting the new year with a clean{er} phone. So you ready for a new challenge?

Sticking with the photo theme...this week, I challenge you to back up your computer photos/memory cards/whatever other device may hold your photos. I get really bad about doing that regularly, and then I hurry to do it when I start to panic that my laptop is crashing. So this week - back up those photos!! Whether on a cloud or an external hard drive or whatever...just get them backed up!

Two.
I read a book last weekend. Like a whole book in one weekend. Probably shouldn't get used to having that kind of time on my hands! Anyway. The book I read was The Story Keeper by Lisa Wingate. This was my first time to read a book by her. Obviously the fact that I knocked out a 448 page book in one weekend tells you that I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's actually a story within a story. The book itself is about a New York City book editor, Jen Gibbs, who spent many years working to become someone and to move beyond her Appalachian upbringing. Shortly after taking a new job at an established publishing house, she encounters a 20 year old manuscript that had been buried in a slush pile. The book tells Jen's story and the story of the manuscript...and the two are inexplicably intertwined. BONUS: Lisa is going to be a guest on Mid-Morning to round out Author Author on Monday, so if you listen, you'll get to hear her talk about this book from 10:50-11:00 a.m. ET.

Three.
Trust. Anyone else out there struggling with this one? Pretty sure we all do in some way. I loved this timely message by Liz Curtis Higgs about trusting Him wholeheartedly. Right now. Unreservedly.

Four.
I adore Pinterest. You all know that. And I stand by it. But my GOODNESS does it ever put pressure on party planners! Baby showers, wedding showers, birthday parties, weddings themselves...everything falls prey to the Pinterest pressure! So I really liked this blog post by Tricia Goyer about how she threw a truly lovely bridal shower for her daughter on a pretty tight budget. {And I'd like a cupcake, please.}

Five.
I may be the last person on earth to find out about this blog, so if you've been reading for months and could just politely nod and smile right now, I'd appreciate it. But if maybe I'm just the next to the last person on earth to find out about the blog, and you're the other one, you must read it. The story of Kara Tippetts and her dying days. I can't imagine blogging about dying. About saying goodbye to Ryan. I have tears in my eyes just thinking about it. It's too much to take in. But this unbelievably faithful soul is doing just that. It will make you think. And cry. But read it anyway.

Six.
If you listen to Mid-Morning, you know the name Dr. Ann Kulze, because she's on our program once a month to talk health and nutrition. You know how sometimes, when you only know people through one avenue of life {think, for example, of your second grade teacher} - you kind of forget they might actually be real people with multi-faceted lives? That's me with Dr. Ann. She's the nutrition expert. I know her for her love of veggies and health! But oh my WORD. Check out this article about her. So fun to see her ties to this cabin and to property from the film Forrest Gump!!

I'm doing better at keeping my phone photos organized. It helps that I have iphoto so they naturally sync. I've also been better at deleting the photos on the computer that I do not need. I may finish that task this afternoon and then do a system backup!

Thankfully Dave does a backup of my computer about every two months. Although this post did remind me to remind him to do it again soon.

I watched youtube videos a while back of Kara Tippetts talking about leaving a legacy. Can not even think about it without crying. It's one of those things that you just can't bear to listen to but at the same time you can't stop listening. Wow! She is an amazing person who is being used by God to speak into so many lives. I just can't even imagine being in that position and knowing that your children are going to grow up without you. It breaks my heart to look at pictures of her precious children.

System backup!!! Time for it! Me too. I need to do it asap!!

I can't imagine this kind of heartbreak...saying goodbye is just horrible. Ryan and I went to a viewing this afternoon of a woman in her early 40's, and her little son met us at the door. We didn't know him at all, but he asked if we knew his mom. Heartbreaking. :(
