Spencer County: Lincoln State Park

We want to try to hit as many state parks as we can during our 92 county tour, and there was one in Spencer County! There was also a national park, but we ran out of steam before we got to it. I mentioned in an earlier post that Abraham Lincoln spent most of his boyhood in Indiana, so the national park {we heard} has some of the whole step-back-into-the-time-period thing. It had just been such a hot and humid day that by the end of our visit to the state park, we were done and in need of showers and air conditioning.

But anyway. Here it is: Lincoln State Park.
We decided to start our visit by heading to the lake to see if they did canoe rentals. They did...and kayaks and paddleboats. Given that my paddling abilities are better than my rowing abilities, we opted for a paddleboat instead of a canoe.

We made our way all around Lincoln Lake, and it was a gorgeous ride, but MAN was it hot out there in that sun! We were soaked with sweat by the time we were done. And I'm pretty sure most of you could smell me from your house.

After we made our way back to the starting line and turning in our boat, we decided to hike one of the longer trails in the park. We were glad to be in the shade with some relief from the blazing hot sun.

Except.

The trails were NOT well-marked at all. We were lost inside of 10 minutes. :(

And there were SO MANY spider webs at face level. Apparently no one had been out hiking for a while. These webs spread all the way across the trails and they were right up there where we couldn't see them until we ate them. After getting tangled up in about the sixth one, even RYAN was so over the hiking. We stumbled upon a driving road, so we made a sharp left and found our way back to our car and just left. We were sad that the hiking hadn't worked out, but honestly it was so hot, that it was probably just best.
So that was our hot and muggy day at the state park!

Thank you for sharing blogs that you read. It is fun sometimes to just cruise different ones.

I enjoy reading about your travels as I love to travel.

Your Saturday blogs are always a highlight for me.

Frankly, even though I have never met you (probably won't until heaven), and our lives are very different, I completely and totally appreciate your blog.

May God bless you and Ryan richly.

This does not sounds like the most fun park visit ever. I'm so sorry :(
