Trendy Took Over

I typically balk at all things trendy. I don't like printed fabric on furniture because in ten years, someone will be able to say the exact year of purchase based on the print. I'm kind of picky about clothes...print and style. Plain is good, because it can last for years without as much risk of becoming worthy of a What Not to Wear nomination. I try to take it easy on wild makeup colors and hairstyles.

But last week....I gave in. A snippet of trend wormed its way into my home.

Gasp.

I've seen these before in Hobby Lobby. I recall even rolling my eyes and deeming such a thing stupid...why would anyone pay for such a dust collector?
And now I am that consumer.
As I mentioned in an earlier post, Mom took me to a show home for my birthday. One of the rooms in the show home was a trendy (gasp) diva/princess room. Multiple shades of pink and black. So cute - but certainly so 2009. On the dresser, I spotted one of these above "things" - serving as an earring and bracelet holder.
Shut right up.
Now that I have not one but two jewelry makers in my office, my collection of beaded earrings, bracelets, and necklaces has grown. It is not uncommon for me to spend a good five minutes in the morning hunting down the match to an earring...or untangling necklaces.
And this, I decided, would be just the answer. And since it just happened to be half price the day I was there...well...I had to buy it.
Don't tell anyone but.....I love it.

I also like it!

I'm right there with you on trends. Except that by the time I get around to embracing a trend, it's usually over.

I think it's fine to do small trendy accessories, but when it comes to the big stuff, like furniture, it's usually better to go with a more timeless tradional style.

For what it's worth, I think the dress form/bodice is a pretty tradional look, so you should be just fine!

Oh and yes, I actually do know that traditional is not spelled "tradional" despite doing it that way twice.

I think I'm having a bad typing day!

ROFL!!!! You are too funny, Bekah!

Sarah - You would love the new bracelet Tom and Olivia gave me - it's supercute.

Lynnette - I just realized I spelled your name wrong when I left a comment over on your blog. I'm so sorry!! Thanks for visiting me!

Christina - Here's the bad thing. I read your entire comment without noticing EITHER MISSPELLING. I'm a dork. AND - I'm totally with you on embracing a style as it exits stage left. LOL. Although I will say I never managed to learn to love gaucho pants.

Tsofah - Thanks girl!

Amen to the hatred of gaucho pants. Some trends should never have been!

This is yet another reason we will always be friends.

I love it, too. I love it very very much. It's all I can think about.

I must buy one for myself. I'll put a little dress on it, and lay it on the pillow next to mine.

I'll name it Judith.

:)

This ranks right up there with sconces... An object that screams, "A woman lives here!"

But I can tell from the comments from your fem friends that it's cute and tasteful... So I'll shut up.

Chris - LOL - You win the prize for making me laugh before ten (AND before coffee!). Do you know how rare that is?

Are you so excited to find out what your prize is??

Judith.

Bekah-Bek...

As long as the prize isn't that thing in the picture...

If one of the hospital maintenance guys dropped by and saw -that- in my house... I'd be branded a fairy immediately... I could be wearing a tool belt and reading Sports Illustrated, and it wouldn't save me.

Bekah said...

Chris - Well I certainly don't want that for you. It just wouldn't be right.

If you find yourself thinking about Judith to the point where you are unable to focus on anything else, you're welcome to come over and look at her. She's wearing LOTS of earrings now, so she's extra sparkly.

Malott said...

Judith is definitely hot. The thought of her being enhanced with sparklies is almost too much to bear.

I know the type. She would toy with me for a season, get a couple pairs of earrings out of me, and then she would stop taking my calls. I would be destroyed.

So thanks, but no thanks, Bekah. I'll just stay at home with my Malibu Barbie, and my Emma Drinks-And-Wets Baby Doll.

Malott:

Don't you have a "Caribou Barbie"??

;-D

I just want you to know that trendy earring holder girl is forevermore officially named Judith. I have a feeling the blog has not heard the last of her.

Tsofah said...

Malott has named her "Judith". Hmmm.

I wonder if he'll "kiss her and hug her and love her and keep her for his very own".

Now - who knows where that quote is from???? ;-)

I know i've heard it but I can't think where it's from!
