...read this in Jim Elliot's Journal last night...based on Genesis 43 when Jacob sends his sons to Egypt to get food during the famine...
With all the storehouses of Egypt so filled that the amount could not be tabulated, Jacob says, "Buy us a little food" (v. 2); "Take a little balm, a little honey" (v. 11). His unbelief parallels mine. When "all things are mine," I hesitate to ask for the greatest, though my Master be Lord of all.

We are children of The King... Choosing to live like paupers is a myopic and sad choice...
"Oh, what needless pain we bear..."
God and I had a long chat about this last night - even though it was far too late when I even started doing my devotions. This was a kicker for me.
You're absolutely right. Needless pain. I wonder if we'd even be able to handle knowing how much we do this to ourselves. Probably not.
Perhaps those are the tears God wipes from our eyes in heaven: the ones we shed over all the blessings we could have had on earth, if only our belief was stronger.
Skyepuppy - You could be very right. I don't want to miss out on any!!! Blessings, that is...don't mind missing out on the tears. I'm starting to understand more about that "I believe...help thou my unbelief" verse.
This is a refreshing view. I hear all too many say they should ask for their dream car, house, vacation home, etc. because G-d is so rich.
To have the humility to realize it's a gift to ask for the basics of food, (as Jacob did), and realize it's ok to ASK for food or help with various other things in life is showing more of the character of the Lord than the former.
Thanks!
