Movie Night

I'm going to post my Idol thoughts while I watch the Duggars find out that Anna is pregnant. So if random baby words show up in the post, you'll know why.

Tonight was movie night on Idol and I finally knew a couple of songs! But much like last week - the judges and I were listening to very different performances.

Allison - Love her to death, but I didn't like this song. I didn't know it, so maybe it was the curse of not knowing what it was supposed to sound like. I kept wondering if she was off pitch. The judges raved over her, so she must have done okay, and I was glad they gave her a good review because she does deserve to stay.

Anoop - I knew this song and actually kind of like the song. I think it would have been better if he had taken the advice to "rough it up" a bit. As it was, I thought it was just plain rough. I thought it sounded like a cheesy high school talent show. The judges, however, loved it. How?

Adam - I thought he was really really good. Born to be Wild fit him perfectly and I agreed with Paula that he is one of the bravest contestants they've ever had. I love it that he knows who he is and is not afraid to be that performer. Would I go to one of his concerts? Probably not. But I do think he's good at what HE does.

Matt - I didn't like it as much as last week - but I thought the song got better as it went on. Of course the judges thought the start of the song was the best and it got worse. So what do I know? I like it when he plays the piano - he's good at that. I think the judges want him gone, though.

Danny - I love Danny. I love it that he sang a love song. And I love harps. If I had an instrument to pick that I wish I had learned to play - it would be the harp. That was just a side note. The judges didn't love him tonight - so you'll be able to figure out I DID love it!

Kris - I could have listened to him sing all day. I didn't even care that I didn't know the song. Just sing, Kris! I was worried when Randy didn't like it, but maybe Kara's vote of confidence saved him?

Lil - Oh, Lil. I am not a huge fan of the song The Rose, and I thought all the runs and extra words she threw in distracted from it, so I didn't like it at all. I do like her longer hair - I think it makes her look younger. And once again, my vote was for her to stop talking at the end.

Bottom 3? My bottom 3 would be Matt, Lil and Anoop with Anoop going home.

Matt, Lil & Anoop, but I want Matt to go home. Lil might be in trouble because I thought despite her past few weeks that the judges still liked her, but now I think they are done with her - she's been off her game for far too long and I think they wouldn't use the save if she had the lowest votes. Although, who knows? They only have 2 more chances to use it, and it would be a little silly to not use it at all.
I thought Anoop did well, Alison was ok, Matt struggled and so did Lil, Adam was awesome as usual, Kris was boring (I don't see the appeal) and Danny was vanilla but good. I could tell that Danny was fighting the tears and it reminded me of his tragedy that had pushed to the back of my mind due to his upbeat song choices in the last few weeks.

Oh my gosh Bekah we agree on the bottom three again, is that 3 weeks in a row?? WOW!

The best ones left are Allison, Kris, and Danny. I don't like Adam one bit and he needs to stop screaming at me but he isn't going anywhere even if he did they would save him so BAH. Anoop sang the song of death every contestant that has sang that has gone home! I thought Matt sounded AWFUL in the middle of the song, and I can't stand when contestants argue with the judges LIL!

I don't like only 2 judges talking if they do that again they need to rotate Randy/Paula/Kara and let Simon talk all the time he's the only one that I listen to.

Bye Bye Lil *little* Rounds

Sarah - I hadn't remembered that there came a point when they couldn't use the save. I must have ignored that when they were announcing the rules.

I think Danny has done an amazing job of not throwing his loss in everyone's face and using it for sympathy votes (I hate it when people do that) - but at the same time, I'm glad he hasn't just thrown the whole thing aside. Good balance, Danny!

Phats - I agree that Simon needs to talk every time. What is this!?!? We're agreeing again?? lol. I think Lil SHOULD go home before Anoop, but I think she has a bigger fan base than he does, so that's why I picked him to go home.

My impressions: this was a bad week. All had rough patches in their songs. It would be nice if they picked a more contemporary or more recent artist category, like "Nickelback", or "Bon Jovi" again, or at least SOME rock.

Again, I think Adam is trying to do a David Cook impersonation with picking songs to sing slow. His voice being higher and then screaming does not help. He needs to get more real, IMHO.

Best ones doing what they could with what they had to work with:

Anoop (yeah, surprised myself too!)
Danny
Allison
Kris

Bottom three should be (but probably won't):

Lil
Adam
Matt

I actually thought the judges and I were listening to different performances at times, as well.

Allison had a rough night. Still, she's earned the right to stay.

Anoop sounded fine, but he's boring.

Matt's song sounded really rough, beginning to end, but especially middle to end.

Adam was classically Adam and I think he should win. Period.

Danny, I love. He would have won were it not for Adam. (Yes, I've already called the competition!) Still, his performance was quite nice, yet again.

Kris's song was weird. Not his best, but he too, deserves to stay.

Lil needs to go. She can't even pick a hairstyle/length, let alone a decent song choice/style. She has not listened to (or doesn't understand) the judges comments and that never settles well with me.

Bottom three? Matt, Lil, Allison. (Allison will be there only because she doesn't seem to be a fan fave for some reason).

Lil should go, although Matt might be on the chopping block this week.

Tsofah and Christina - were you surprised with the save? I kind of was. I was happy - but I wasn't sure they'd use it on him.

My friend Jessica said next week Lil and Anoop would be out. Is it bad if I kind of hope????

It's not wrong to hope for your favorites to do well. It's wrong to pray for someone to do poorly, though. G-d tends to stay out of these things from my experience. :-D

I was very surprised with the save. But, I'm relieved. The reason is now none of them can hold out to save a favorite of specifically. Personally, I think they should have the right to two saves, with a three out of four agreeing.

Yes, I digressed.

Next week I think it will be Lil and Matt who go home. Then again, you don't know what the phone lines will do.

This I WILL say, if Adam win AI, he will be as dismal a failure for them as Blake Lewis was (if not worse). Sadly, that is potentially what Allison may be if she doesn't switch things up a bit.

Personally, as they presently are, I think best possible record sales will come from Danny, Kris, and Matt.

I'm hopeful for a Allison resurge as well.

Remember, it's not just vocal ability here that is needed. The "it" factor is playing into it as well. Danny, Kris, Allison, and Matt need to bring "it" next week big time! I'm hopeful Anoop may as well.

oops! Correction: The second paragraph should read

I was very surprised with the save. But, I'm relieved. The reason is now none of them can hold out to save a favorite of theirs specifically. Personally, I think they should have the right to two saves, with a three out of four agreeing.

Danny is my favorite for the "it" factor. I think Kris would be a close second for me. Some of them, for as brilliant as they are vocally...are kind of boring. Allison aside, this is an older, more 'settled' group this year. more of them are married and/or have kids. i think that tends to bring a different feel to the competition.
