Leave the Menu Alone!!

You all know that change isn't my favorite thing in life, although I handle it now with considerable dignity compared to days of yore. Don't believe me? Ask my friend Lois. She'll tell you.

Anyway, until recent days when our Burger King got new management and went down the toilet faster than anything I've ever seen, it was my favorite place in life to eat and I went there often. I always ordered the same combo meal (whopper junior with cheese, minus onion) by number. One day I went in, ordered my number, and the lady hesitated, looked at me and said rather quietly, "Are you sure?" I glanced up at the menu. All the combos had been switched around, and I was about to order a triple whopper with cheese. God bless the lady who knew I didn't mean it!

But I've noticed lately that any business I call begins the automated answer with "Please listen carefully as our menu options have recently changed." Really? You've said that for the last six months. Can't you find an order you like?????

Whew...okay. I feel better now.

Speaking of menu changes, Em and I went to Applebee's today because I was hungry and craving their chicken tenders (and mainly their awesome honey mustard).

Imagine my extreme disappointment when our orders came with something they called honey mustard, but was definitely not the regular stuff. Honey mustard and Honey dijon mustard do not taste the same.

Why oh why did they do this to me?

And while on the subject of phone menus...if one more cust. service automated thingy says "For English, press 1. For Spanish, press 2" (in Spanish, of course) I will probably scream. I'm calling from America...you can just assume that I'm speaking English. Let someone else have to press another number for their convenience.

(Can you tell I've called two such numbers today?)

Christina - I responded to you yesterday. Unfortunately it must not have liked what I said, because it didn't save it. Lovely.

I think it went something like this:

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! Applebees can't change their honey mustard! I LOVE IT!! It is right up there with Bob Evans, which I buy by the jar.

And it is funny to me that you mention the language thing (which I agree with you, by the way) because my friend Kristin had the same experience and reaction as you just yesterday! Must have been the day for it!

oh how I loved the Applebee's honey mustard! And I also adore Bob Evans, but Applebee's was my #1pick.

The only other place that has truly excellent honey mustard is Arbys. But now they've done away with the chicken tenders, so why bother?

I'd admit that the chosing the language thing when I phone a business really, REALLY irritates me; but I'd be called a bigot. Oh yeah, and hard hearted.

I'm not sure, but I think just recently the U.S. Congress voted AGAINST making English the official language of our nation. Sad.

Christina - WHAT? No more chicken tenders?? Okay can you just kind of go down the line and tell me what other menu changes to expect at restaurants I obviously don't frequent as I should?

Tsofah - I had not heard that! (which doesn't surprise me since I'm very behind.) What did they vote for?

Yes, Rebekah, Arby's has done away with the chicken strips. As far as I know, the only thing close on their menu is popcorn chicken, which just isn't the same.

I'm also peeved that Aplebee's has comletely changed their once-yummy clubhouse grill. Now it is on marbled rye, with no bbq sauce and bacon, which I generally think makes everything better, but somehow ruins this.

Leave the good stuff alone!!
