At the Start of This New Year

My plan for today was to share with you about yesterday’s celebrations. Alas, it is 11 p.m. and I just sat down for the first time. I haven’t uploaded my pictures, I haven’t thought through the details of my beautiful birthday, and I don’t want to rush the stories.

So I’ll come back to that tomorrow, and today I will share other thoughts!

First of all, thank you for the sweet birthday wishes yesterday! I loved Ryan’s post and appreciated all the creative and thoughtful things he did to make the day special for me.

Secondly, I spent some time the night before my birthday reflecting on the past year. So much has changed for me (on a personal level) from the year prior, and I am grateful for it. I remember a year ago and how frustrated and scared I felt about my future in the land of work, and to see how God went before, prepared, and provided has been such a faith boost for me.

As I sat drinking my morning coffee yesterday, I watched ducks swim across the lake and marveled that this is my home. What a gift to get up early and even before a long day of work, have the chance to drink coffee while looking over such a picturesque scene!

For friends and family, for impromptu parties and together time, for naps and puppy hugs, for cake and ice cream, for kisses and flowers, for gifts and cards, for smiles and words of encouragement…I am grateful.

Thank you, Lord, for this beautiful new year. Help me to honor You with each moment of it!
