Last fall, when our sanctuary was still under construction, the
congregation was invited to stop by on a Sunday evening and write verses on the
framework. It was a meaningful opportunity for us, and I wrote about it here,
if you missed it and want to see more!
Our church
renovations are actually a two-part adventure. The first part involved enlarging
the sanctuary, which is now done, and tomorrow I’ll show you our return to that
space. The second part encompasses the building of a whole new wing, which will
be finished in a few months. The structure is built, the rooms are framed, and
just ahead of the drywall installation, the children were invited to write on
the framework of THEIR new space.
They sectioned
off one little room and last Wednesday evening, the area was open for an hour
for them to come in, pull markers out of a bowl, and write their names, or
verses, or prayers on the framework of the church.
Ryan
and I have been working with the kids’ ministry the last four months, so we
went for a little bit to watch their excitement and see what they chose to
write. It was so sweet to see them taking it so seriously.
I also
wanted to write a verse – and Ryan wanted to pretend to cross the caution tape.
(He did not. Photo opp only.)
I’m
excited to see the ministry that gets to happen in this space in the months and
years to come. It will be so much fun for all the kids (and their leaders) to
have the space to do the things they want to do!
Most of
all, I love it that the kids were invited to be part of taking ownership of
this space by making their literal mark on the framework. One day, years down
the road, when they’re grown and have children of their own, they can tell them
about the year this was built and the night they came to write Scripture on the
framework.
