If there's one thing Ryan and I are learning in a new and fresh (and good!) way since moving, it's our utter dependence on God to do this job well. Some of you might have seen the interview we did last week, where we talked about every day and every person being different. There aren't any manuals for our tenants. (Oh sure, there are handbooks and policy books, but there are no manuals to instruct us on how each person operates within him or herself.)
And so we pray. Frequently. And we study the Word, trying to make sure we have our own hearts settled before the Lord the way we should so we can do our job the best we can.
This week Ryan did something (all on his own!) that I just loved, and I wanted to share it with you.
Deuteronomy 11:18-21 says Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates, so that your days and the days of your children may be many in the land the Lord swore to give your ancestors, as many as the days that the heavens are above the earth.
Ryan and I have been trying to keep Scripture in front of ourselves, our support couple, and our tenants - as much as we can - but this week Ryan felt an extra burden to keep encouraging verses in front of us.
All on his own, he chose some verses, printed them out, laminated them, and displayed them throughout our home.
I love it that he did this. I love it that he felt the nudge from the Lord and followed through.

That’s so lovely. That part of Deuteronomy we say 3x daily in our prayers! The part about doorposts we actually do, we have our mezzuzot on every doorway in our houses with a passage to remind us Gd will protect us and remind us of the sanctity of Gd’s protection.
That's great! What a guy! I recently decorated some index cards for a friend and wrote Bible verses on them for her to post around her house.
We also have mezzuzot on some of our doors. It has that verse in them. I like the visual reminder when I walk by them.
