The Shafferland Shuffle

We are a bit more settled in this week than we were last time we shuffled your way! It's been a full and good week here in Grabill!

* Last Sunday was our monthiversary, and we enjoyed our day, even though it was a work day for us. We visited a church in Grabill, and one of our tenants went along with us. When we got back to WillowBridge, Ryan grilled some chicken for our lunch and we played SkipBo with a tenant before spending some time with our new co-workers, Tim and Justine. We did go for a walk that evening - and the path we love so much was extra pretty!

* Monday morning, we took one of our tenants to work, and then Ryan suggested trying out Leo Donuts, which isn't too far away. No arguments from me! We worked all day, which for me, included writing notes to all our tenants, spending some time with Tim and Justine's baby, and doing a little bit more unpacking. We went for a walk in the evening (we love our decompressing walks) and the sunset was BRILLIANT that night!

* Tuesday was the first day of our weekend, so we took it easy in the apartment that morning. Our new mattress was delivered that day, and after it was all set up, we headed out to do our first grocery shopping in a LONG time. We had to figure out where all the stores were around here! We worked a bit more on unpacking when we got home - and finally started to make a pretty good dent in the boxes.

* Ryan had to go back to Kokomo on Wednesday (wrap up stuff from his old job) but I stayed in Grabill to work on the apartment. Alas, I ended up needing a bit of a brain-rest day, so I drank coffee, watched old episodes of Andy Griffith, did some baking, and spent a lot of time praying and reading the Bible. I was so excited to have Ryan back that evening, though! And one of our new co-workers came over to talk homeschooling curriculum with me. (Oddly - one of my favorite topics!)

* We were back to work on Thursday, which involved all sorts of odds-and-ends work. I did some hunting for recipes to use donated food, we talked to some volunteers coming to do work at WillowBridge, and Braeya slept through it ALL. (She had some issues this past week with having her days and nights mixed up. She's better now.)

* Friday morning I found Ryan working in our WillowBridge office - and my goodness. This is multi-tasking at its finest! He and I did all sorts of work that day! I wrapped up at the end of the day with a mani-but-not-pedi night with one of our tenants! We finished up just in time for me to go on another sunset walk with Ryan!

* Though yesterday was a work day for us, we were able to ease into it, which included pancakes for breakfast! Mid-day, we went over to the Gateway Woods campus to cheer on some bike riders who raised money for us! And then it was time for me to bake cookies in preparation for our first ever community night with our tenants! We had a great evening of getting to know them a little bit better, playing some games (Ryan donned his game show host hair) and eating delicious food!

Good work with all the unpacking! Sounds like your jobs have a lot of variety!

Oh! I had to look up Skip Bo because I wasn’t sure what kind of game it was. It sounded like the old game when you had a ball attached to a feather around your ankle, and you had to swing it around and jump over it! But I found out that Skip Bo was made into a card game by a gal whose nickname was Skip and her last name was Bowman!

Can’t wait to hear more about your new jobs and see your apartment. I am assuming the deck in the picture on 8/6 is your private space Praying for you both.

I am excited to read about a DITL new job edition because I am curious what your tasks involve. I am guessing it is a mix of random activities. Also, will your "weekends" always be Tuesday and Wednesday or will they switch around as well?

Tamar - Yes! Hopefully the same for you! :)

Tracy - Yes! So much variety. :) And now I've learned something about Skip Bo that I didn't know! :) Thanks for teaching me!

Gerri - I can't wait to finish assembling our home so I can show it to you! The deck is actually a shared space. It's for the whole building but they hadn't been able to purchase furniture for it yet. We are sharing ours, since we didn't want to get rid of it, but didn't have a place to put it, either.

Natasha - YES! Oh my, it will be such a different sort of DITL!! Every single day is completely different. And our weekends are always changing. We got a certain number of days off a month (which equals out to weekends) and we arrange them however works for us and our support couple. So sometimes they'll be on real weekends and sometimes during the week. Just depends.

I still haven't figure out what exactly your new jobs are, but it sounds like you run some kind of a half-way house or something. Whatever it is, I can imagine you are the perfect couple for it because you seem like such fun, energetic people that everyone loves to be around, talk to, spend time with, etc.

So cool of you to share your patio furniture.

Kitty on a lap is too cute.
