Snow Much Fun!

Because we're currently not-quite-knee-deep in snow, we're celebrating all things snow today, both on the podcast and in today's blog post. We've got snow much information just for you!!

We had our first big snowfall this past weekend, and nearly everything about it was perfect in a Bekah's-mind sort of way. It didn't start until the middle of the night between Friday and Saturday, and by Monday morning, the main roads were clear again. This was always the kind of snow I prayed for in my commuting years.

But we were so busy and tired that we didn't get to enjoy it in a play-in-it kind of way. (Nor did I take any photos other than a few of Ryan clearing out the driveway.) They say we're going to get a second chance this weekend, so maybe we'll squeeze in a snow angel or something before it's all over.

Because we talked about snow days in the podcast, it made me think about my childhood snow days. They were FUN! That was back when snow days were actual free days from school that didn't have to be made up in the summer. My parents both worked in the school system, so a day off school meant a day off for ALL of us.

We would sleep in and I could play all day long, and usually before the day was over, we'd have a meal of hot dogs roasted in the fireplace. (And then I would promptly go into prayer for another snow day the next day so I could do it all over again.) We had a nice big yard, so I could also go play in the snow if it wasn't too bitter outside.
And then of course, I grew up, where snow days meant tackling this:
Until it looked like this:
Did all that by hand, thankyouverymuch. It wasn't good enough for me until I could see the ground through the snow. (Photo from my single days.)

I'm becoming more convinced, though, as time goes by, that snow days were meant to be observed and embraced as much as possible, regardless of age. I noticed on my Facebook feed this past weekend that most of my friends had taken their kids out for snow-day fun. Sledding and snowmen and all kinds of adventures. I don't think you have to have kids or be a kid to cash in on winter fun!

I'm not too old to build a snowman, and if we do get round two of snow this weekend, I want to make one! (And also, I'm okay if we don't get another snow dump. I'm just saying if we do...) I want to go out and take pictures of pretty snow on trees, and I want to come inside and curl up under the Sherpa blanket and drink coffee. I want to watch movies and stay up late, eat soup and wear jammies all day. I want to read books and take naps. These are the things of snow days, and I want to make sure at some point this winter, I properly enjoy one of the snow days.

(Here's a throwback to when we did just that back in 2014.)

What makes a snow day perfect for you?

I think we had ONE snow day my entire growing up years -- snow was just a part of life people dealt with in the Prairies. Thank you for the reminder to discover and appreciate the JOY of snow as opposed to just the WORK of snow. From one hand snow shoveler to another :)
