Sooo.... as you'll hear a bit about in the podcast, we had our niece and nephews for the day yesterday! It's been a few months since they came to visit (for a day, anyway) and I wanted to have a few fun things planned. (Basically I felt like a failure the last time they were here and I wanted to do better this time.)
I have about a billion super cute pictures, but I always try to limit what I share about them online since they're not my kids! (Although they did call me Mom for the day, so I had to remember to answer to that!)
But here are a few peeks at our fun day together.
Every single time he comes over, this one wants to turn our ottoman into a bed. I am not sure how much longer he'll fit into it, but for this week it still worked!
An extra fun bonus this time? Got to play teacher!!! This is how a spelling lesson should look! Coffee included (I promise she's allowed to drink it, as long as it's really more milk than coffee.)
And group reading out of a Little House book? Oh, be still my soul! (HA! After I wrote that, I realized what mug I was using. How appropriate!)
(Please note that in addition to teaching spelling and English, I also successfully had both boys napping. For a girl who has no actual clue what she's doing, I thought that was pretty great.)
Visiting Uncle Ryan - always a crowd favorite.
Oh! We also made some Olympic-related projects and even watched some competition together! (Funny note: they wanted to see some ice skating, so I found some saved On Demand. After hearing Johnny Weir's commentary on Nathan Chen's first skate, one of the kids was like "That guy is not very nice. He shouldn't say mean things about other people." Exactly. Do not repeat what you just heard, kids.)
We frosted cookies and made plaster handprints for Valentine's Day - and painted them! We watched some fun movies and read books and had a great day together. They informed their dad when he came to get them that they were not leaving; they were going to move in with us and stay forever and ever.
We need a bigger house.

It's wonderful to invest in the lives of kids- especially kids who aren't your own. Looks like a fun day!
