You've seen Charlotte's Web, right? The movie version, not the book. When Templeton the rat learns, "Oh the fair is a veritable smorgasboard...orgasboard...orgasboard." If you've not seen it, you are indeed missing out on a fine, fine tune. You can watch it here.
It's true. There is so. much. food. at. the. fair.
And we were excited to get a taste of it! So last Wednesday night, Ryan and I set out with a destination of the Howard County Fair. Our first time to go to the fair together - back in the town where we both grew up and went to school!
We started out with one of Ryan's favorites: fried mushrooms!!! {And a lemon shakeup. Not pictured. I'm not sure how that happened. Scrapbooking fail.}
My first time to have the delicacies...and they were SO GOOD. So glad he introduced me to them.
We walked around for a bit...and then headed for the crowning moment of the night. The Ferris Wheel. Settle in. There's a story.
I'm not a fan of rides. The up and down and around and spinning and dropping...it's just a nightmare for my stomach and equilibrium. I haven't been on a ride since I was about 10. But I had a secret desire to ride the Ferris Wheel. And Ryan said he would take me on a ride.
So the entire day, I psyched myself up for this ride. For the height. The moving in circles. And I envisioned in my mind that it would be the most romantic little excursion. We would stand in line together and crawl into a cozy little Ferris Wheel basket and cuddle up with one another and kiss as we went in circles...and take pictures...and it would be the most amazing date for me to blog about at this juncture.
Alas. As we stood in line, Ryan leaned over and whispered in my ear, "This line is pretty long. They might put us in with other people."
I'm sorry....WHAT???
I have psyched myself up the entire day to crawl into a contraption constructed in a day by carnies...finally convinced myself that it is a romantic Notebook-esque event...and now I have to share with perfect strangers???
But, alas, I convinced myself that it might not be so bad. Another couple in our basket would mean we wouldn't have to take a selfie! It would be great for the scrapbook.
And right at that moment, we were ushered into our basket....
...along with three 8 year old GIRLS.
This was not in my mental picture.
We settled in and Ryan began snapping pictures of the midway over the side of the basket.
Not getting on these rides. NO way. No how.
This is my "ohhhhhhh we're on a ride with three unaccompanied eight year old girls we've never met rather than being cuddled up on a romantic interlude for two" face.
Our selfie. Because I was NOT turning the camera over to kids.
Here's something about Ferris Wheels I did NOT know. They move much faster in real life than it appears from the ground. So this is my "please help me" face.
It was while Ryan was up taking these pictures that one of the kids in our ride put her hand up near her mouth to mimic a walkie talkie and said, "We seem to be having a minor malfunction over on the left."
Y'all, I FREAKED OUT. I was like, "WHAT!?!!?? A malFUNCTION!?!?!?!!?? WHERE????" Then I realized, HELLO...she was making that up!!!
You can imagine my amusement.
In the end, I got the rhythm of the thing and really enjoyed it! Right about the time the ride was over!
We stopped by the talent show to visit Ronda and her family {they were watching, not participating} - and we shared an elephant ear!
So. So. Good.
Had to wander over and see the bear. We were kind of late for his show, so we had to stand in the back where it was hard to see, but he is, in fact, going down a slide in this picture.
Before we left, Ryan needed some protein, so a turkey leg it was!!
Goodbye, fair!!! And my Ferris Wheel!!!! One day I will NOT share you with kids.

I never go down by the Mid-Way so I cannot say but did they actually have a Ferris Wheel? It sounds like you rode the Gondola if you shared with 3 eight year olds....which I can only imagine how "interesting" that might have been! It might have been even more interesting if it had been three eight year old BOYS!!! I rode the Gondola YEARS ago and one of the other people I rode it with wanted to ROCK the silly thing!! Scared me to death!!! I thought for sure we would tip over and fall out!! I wanted to strangle that little person but figured there would not be a way out since we were trapped in it all those many feet up in the air!!! Besides, when the ride was over everyone would know it was me who killed him!!! I never rode that ride again!!
Your photos from the top of the ride look awesome!!!!
It was a gondola - but they all look alike to me. Ferris Wheels - gondolas - they're all big circles in the sky.
The gondola, to me, is that big boat looking thing that flips upside down. They really should have consulted me before naming this stuff.
Oh Bekah you are precious!! I am not really crazy about riding any of the rides because I cannot keep from thinking how often they are put up and taken down!! Although, I wish it had been the romantic ride you had pictured in your heart and mind. I am sure you two made the best of it!!
i love Charlotte's web! and that SONG! :)
The story about those girls is so funny. Next time... just you and Ryan for a smoochie romantic ride on the wheel.<3
and elephant ears.... let's not even go there. I also love corn dogs at the Huntington County fair! A corn dog is just a happy dog.
I agree 100% with you... prefer cleaning help because i love to cook! There is no creativity in cleaning but cooking? so fun!!!
happy day sweet girl! Enjoy your eve. XOXO
Ooooohhhhh... Romantic moment ruined by 8 year old girls. I'm so sorry. And please find out the recipe for those mushrooms and send it my way. Stat!
MIL - I tried NOT to think about the up and down in a day thing. We did manage to get the ride I envisioned - on another day.
Polly - We should have just had a big ole kiss right there. You're right. Ryan loves corn dogs too. I love them - but I have to be careful with cornmeal - bothers my stomach.
Natasha - I've never made them...I will have to ponder that one!!
I can't believe you rode the ferris wheel at the fair!!! That is great :) I remember in HS riding all those rides ya now that I am older pass scared they will break haha.
I avoided the fair at all costs, but your elephant ear makes me wish I had gotten one of those
