Olivia's Baby Shower

Some of you who are newer here might not remember this, but a couple of years ago, I had the extreme privilege of being a bridesmaid in my friend Olivia's wedding. Tom and Olivia are one of those amazing couples that are so God-ordained...there's no question at all that they're perfectly suited as a team. It was such a great honor to be part of their day. {Especially since I'm 10 years older than Olivia and she still asked me to stand up with her!}

And earlier this year, I received a text from Olivia that said, "Hope it's okay that I didn't RSVP for 3 at your reception. But the 3rd one didn't eat much." WHAT!!!!????

It's true! She's having a baby!!

And last Saturday, I attended not one, but two baby showers for her. {She and her husband live out of state, so whenever they're in town, they have a lot of things to cram into a short amount of time!} Olivia' husband is in school to become a veterinarian, so the shower as cow-themed. So. So. Cute.

Everyone had to guess the due date...by stamping baby feet on a calendar and signing their prediction. I went with the actual due date because Olivia is nothing if not prompt and organized, so it stands to reason the child she grows within her is inheriting that same gene and will arrive right on time.
Um....gift time took a while. And I was certain a U-Haul was going to be necessary to get back home.
 I ate a cow.
Seriously. Couldn't you just die over that cupcake???????

Instead of playing shower games {thank you!!}, we did activities that the two of them could talk about them on their long drive home. This one was a list of advice for Tom so he can be the most supportive husband/new father possible.
So the girl who has never had kids gave this advice. :) I had a friend once whose husband gave her every Saturday morning off from motherhood. She could sleep in and do whatever she wanted and he tended to the kids. If I were going to have children, I would sign up for THAT plan.

Olivia went to school to be a teacher, so it made sense that she'd get a lot of books. :)
Okay here's the thing you have to understand. Olivia and I have this crazy connection over gifts that are craft projects. We have always scrapped the idea of getting normal presents for each other and get things that other people might find odd, but we adore them.

So for this shower gift, I consulted Pinterest {hello!} and found the idea for diaper devos. I borrowed some ideas from the NIV Mom's devotional Bible and printed them out on half sheets of paper. One verse and one devo thought {in large enough print to be read from a distance} and tucked one inside each diaper from a pack of diapers.
And then I explained the concept in this card, which came with a blue envelope. Seriously, card company? A baby girl card in a blue envelope?????
I took my fair share of ribbing for giving this gift - but she loved it as I knew she would. And if any mom on the planet can do a devo while changing a diaper, it is this girl RIGHT HERE.
She is adorable as a mama-to-be. I am SO proud of her for embracing pre-motherhood so well and know she will be an amazing mom.
Lots and lots of pink presents.....
...and lots and lots of cards later....
...the shower was done. Really enjoyed being part of it, celebrating this mama and this sweet baby girl that's about to be very blessed with the parents God chose for her.

Okay, I would have eaten about seven of those incredibly cute cow cupcakes AND I love love love your advice. I wonder if it's too late to pass it on to Dave and make it a family tradition :)
